What people like
- Quick barcode scanning for media
- Helpful and responsive customer support
- One-time purchase fee instead of a subscription
- Reduces stress by organizing home inventory and storage
What they complain about
- Lacks basic export to PDF feature
- Additional paid add-ons for standard features
- Unreliable and slow barcode scanner
- Fails to sync data easily across multiple personal devices
- Frequent app freezing and data loss issues
Finally!!
I have been looking for an app to track home inventory, and looks like I found it! Can do multiple photos, export photos and data. Yes this version costs but it is a one time fee, not yearly!!!
Great layout & data storage, but needs work on scanner
Really like the app, but the barcode scanning is *very* hit or miss. After trying to scan many, many UPC-A barcodes it almost never recognizes them no matter what I do. It’s not a problem with how I’m doing it, as multiple of the other free apps you can get on the app store scan codes quicker and more reliably. When viewing through the scanning view, there’s a noticeable drop in camera quality versus say my camera app, or other barcode scanning apps. Kinda disappointing that an app I paid for seems to function worse in one of its key features than free apps
Organizing items
Starting to organize tools and other household items, not fun, but necessary. Gave 4 stars because of learning curve. Probably deserves 5 because it is a one time charge unlike the ridiculous apps that charge reoccurring charges.
Powerful but dated and beginning to break
I bought the app because features were promising, reviews were great, and development seemed active. But I'm no longer sure of that last point (on iPhone 13, ios 18, at least)... My biggest issues are: -Using the camera takes too many button presses, including inexplainably opening the iPhone "sharing" menu. An app like this should be efficient. -ALL the support buttons are broken, including "report a problem" -Other menu features are broken or cut off -Based on the description vaguely implying iCloud sync (a common feature in apps like this) I thought it would be automatic, but it's triggered manually and more of a backup than sync. And it's stored in a proprietary format, so a csv is another step. -Developers have a bad attitude to feedback and are not proactive with compatibility updates. Personally, I feel like I sadly wasted my money. I think the features here are generous for the price, but that's no good when they don't work well. I genuinely do hope this improves!
Great for inventory, scanning rarely works
Undamaged manufacturer UPC barcodes with good lighting fail to bring up any product info. Attempts to troubleshoot scanning with tech support have failed repeatedly. Eventually they just stop replying to emails when provided with requested info. Having said that, it's still a good inventory app, just don't buy it for the scanning.
Tracking purchase items
This is a great tool to keep track of major purchases including serial numbers. I had a chainsaw stolen. I got it back because I had the model & serial number.
Says it will print labels, requires Cloud subscription
In the description of this app, it says that it prints labels. However, if you attempt to print a label, it will tell you that you must download the nest egg cloud version which is $85 a year, which I might be willing to pay, except that it was not advertised as such
No Export to PDF
For an expensive app, it lacks the most basic Export to PDF function. I'd have to export everything to HTML, preview it through the browser/HTML Viewer and then take a full screen pdf from there. I say expensive because there are already cheaper alternatives with this basic functionality. If this function is added for free (not a paid upgrade), this could be my default go-to app to use for inventory.
A pain to use
This was not entirely intuitive to use as it should be. I tried scanning with a barcode, but could not figure out how to do it. I tried adding a seller, but the system would not accept it.
Decent
This makes it easy to keep my house organized. I give it 3 stars bc you can’t go further without making a purchase for the extended version. It is fine but then once I did make the purchase..I had to start ALL over again. It doesn’t save what you already entered.
This app has helped me clear clutter
I received several generations worth of random household items, owned many pets, worked professionally with pets, I’ve moved and was paying for costly storage unit. Downsizing was necessary, I couldn’t mentally map where all my items were located. Documenting the important items and their location has let off a lot of stress. Getting items untangled allowed huge steps forward. Letting go of objects is much easier when you realize that you have multiple of it. I was able to drop from a 5x15 storage unit to 5x8 unit saving $180 per month!!! This is a great app for people overwhelmed with clutter, moving or who just received an estate. The add ons are worth it. I still have work ahead, but this app has improved my productivity and emotional wellbeing.
No preloaded manufacturers
I’ll change my review if I’m wrong, but this app should have major and minor appliances manufacturers preloaded. Bosch, GE and Breville not in the database? What did I pay for?
Good but needs PDF export option
Good app but needs PDF export feature to have a good usable backup.
Too many app advertisements & Common Sense
There extremely too many app upgrades to do simple things like export to CSV spreadsheet or to have tags those all come with $1.99 upgrade. I first downloaded the live version, and then I took the plunge and purchased the full version. I cannot say I am happy because this is not a full functioning inventory system to catalog an entire house for an estate. After creating a list of items. A packet of snake has now been consumed. There is no option to mark as consumed or ensure the count on the item now reflects the correct quantity. When it comes to food I’m not lending food to myself. And, in this example the food is not borrowed. Where is the option to mark an item used or consumed so the inventory count is reduced and accurate.
Needs an Update
Nestegg is the best one time purchase home inventory app on the AppStore thus far. However, it needs some bug fixes- especially concerning paid add ons. For instance, there seems to be no way to edit the title and description of Tags add on. I also see no way to add tags to the Export feature, only Categories. Cloud looks cool to deal with the storage option, but it seems built specifically for small business and not home/personal inventory. There’s also no way of getting the template for the CSV to populate outside the app. When adding photos, the crop feature doesn’t properly center when using the in-app camera and I don’t know where on my device these photos are stored or how to delete them from the phone, not just the app. Same for attachments. Where do they live? I think this app is great, and I would just like to see the paid add ons more integrated with the core app and other add ons since we are paying extra for features that really don’t function the way you’d expect. You don’t find this out until after you pay. I’m looking forward to the next update and hope they make the app add ons function more intuitively and respective of the devices storage limits.
Developers are Considerate
Used to categorize my home inventory. My favorite part of this app is how responsive the developers are to any inquiries I have. They are also continually looking for any suggestions to improve the app. Dedication to the user and their experience is really important to me.
I’ve had it
They nickel and dime you for each little feature and take away features. Just now they took away attachments that were already a feature when I initially paid and now ask me to pay $2 when entering a new item. They also promised to make the dayabase available via browser and that never happened. You now have to subscribe to a new plan. I regret having started to build an inventory with this awful company. 0 stars from me.
Great app to track collections of all sorts
Love this app to track all my craft supplies! It’s easy to use and can be adapted to what you need to keep track of. I recommend the app to anyone looking to track their collections.
So so…not worth the money
Really bad. It’s picking up less than half of the books and CDs I’m scanning. It was doing all right during the preview. Maybe it’s better suited for other things, but it does have those categories included in the app…??
No Cloud Device Sync
Not sure if they deliberately omitted syncing between personal Devices in order to push their (clearly Business oriented) Cloud app, or not; but wow, what a blind spot that was. Could be a 4, maybe 5-star app, if only they’d simply implement this feature—one that most apps have by default, for free; though, I wouldn’t mind paying another dollar-something for it. Speaking of, an “All Premium Features” payment option would’ve been nice. Paying for each individual feature, in 2021, is a drag, and feels like it’s 2011 all over again. Anyway, not bad for what it’s actually meant to do; it’s just that actually using it productively is a pain. UX definitely needs to be re-examined.
Easy and fun way to create a home inventory
I was looking for an app to assist in inventorying a large collection of DVDs I was planning to donate and was dreading having to catalog them by hand. I looked for an app to scan barcodes and look up media details online and quickly found Nest Egg. I was able to quickly scan around 100 DVDs in just about 20 minutes. Amazing! To add, support is amazing. I had to send an email asking how to get the scanner to work with my iPhone 14 camera and they responded in less than an hour with a very friendly and helpful answer. (There’s a toggle for iPhone 14 camera correction on the app settings). In summary, great app that saved me a lot of manual effort. $4.99 well spent.
Worthless for home us.
I was looking for an app that would allow us to store many boxes in out basement and know where they were and what was in them. I paid the $4.99 for the app and bought 30 labels for QR codes and then it continues to upgrade me to use them for higher and higher costs. This is not for home use. Want a refund
No help documentation for addons
Having to pay extra for features like filter/sort and tagging is annoying but exacerbated by having no documentation on how to use the capability. Didn’t get any better when I tried to submit a help request and had the email rejected Undelivered Mail Returned to Sender
Import tool doesn’t work
I purchased the data import upgrade but couldn’t figure out how to use it. I followed the instructions but there was very little support on the site. I’ve got everything in excel and don’t plan to re-enter it all. $1 loss.
Good, missing some key things
It’s overall pretty good, but I do wish that there was a way to use a web UI so I could use my laptop some. Also, would love to be able to bulk update (e.g.: when moving, update location on 500+ records). Really, I just want there to be an easy sync way to have my family and I update our home inventory.
Great app!
Love it
Not user friendly - no directions
It opens directly into the app with no tutorial or info. I got the app gimping to keep track of holiday decorations as I put them away for the year but immediately it was a mess. The version I downloaded said it was free and included most of the features I wanted which was basically just to take a picture of the item and note which box I put it in. Took one picture and was told I’d have to upgrade. I decided it was worth the $5 to just get the full app. That didn’t really provide much leeway or accessibility in the app. If your super serious about inventorying pantry or other items around the house it’s worth it but I just want to keep track of the decorations and I feel like it’s more headache than it’s worth.
New update - category sorting
I second the review below. Please bring back the option to sort categories alphabetically.
Needs some Work
The barcode scanning is klunky, slow, and in many cases totally ineffective. There’s plenty of apps out there that get this right with the same bar codes in the same conditions within less than a second compared to having to try multiple angles, distances and other adjustments. Simply not reliable, or usable, with a better barcode scanner this is a 4-5 star app.
No bad overall
But some add one don’t seem to add much value or work... like relational tagging, and advanced filters. It be nice to be able to select categories and get a list of all items in that category...but doesn’t happen. It’d also be nice to have the ability to assign an item to multiple categories...but no luck there either.
What a waste. CONSTANTLY FREEZES!
Will no longer properly allow photo to load into the listing! I’ve never seen an app freeze as much as this one does. In one fifteen minute period, it freezes 5-6 tomes, every time you minimize the app, when you come back, it’s frozen and you have to close it completely and start over, losing everything you’ve put in to that point! I also purchased the ability to save file attachments to my item listings, and it won’t work. It wants me to purchase it repeatedly every time I try to use it, even though it shows up as purchased already. What a piece of junk this app is. What a shame.
Terrible app
Barcode scanner is terrible. Useless if you can’t scan collectible bar codes and lookup. Not working on Swarovski boxes or many of my dvds. Very frustrating as the old version worked better, plus now you charge extra to export the data!
Update to my barcode problem.
After reaching out to support my problem reading barcodes has been solved.😊 The support is amazing: quick diagnosis of the problem with pleasant responses to all my question. Thank you.
Hold onto your wallets, kids....
I just purchased this app for $6.99USD (which for me will need to be converted to CDN) as an upgrade from the Lite version, and after being in the upgraded app for 5 minutes I have to say I’m very disappointed in it and wish I were able to reverse the transaction. What is not made clear to you when upgrading is that a good majority of the apps features and benefits are add-on costs over and above the, already overpriced, base fee of $6.99. In fact, 5 out of 6 features (attachments, tagging, sorting, uploading via CSV file, and the ability to have a passcode) are not included and you must pay more money in order to activate each one that you want. Furthermore, the description mentions being able to share your data amongst multiple devices, which was also appealing to me as that way everyone in the family would be able to access and update the inventory in real time ... nope, think again. Another extra charge. By the time you finish paying for every upgrade to get features that would usually be considered standard, you’ll be out at least $20. For me, the price, coupled with the underlying slyness the developers have shown in the way they have set up this multi-tiered cash grab just aren’t worth it.
The Charges Keep Coming
You buy it and expect a full experience. However, you then have to pay for feature such as filter and passwork protection. The APP that keeps on taking. Seriously if I buy the APP dont keep charging me for every little feature. FRUSTRATED!!!!!!
It’s addicting! Lol
I’ve needed this App for many years! It’s great to have all your major purchases, collectibles, receipts, warranties…etc…all listed in one place…So Fantastic! Please Note: if you decide to use a password lock, write the password down and place it in your safe. On the brim of each hat, your pets collars, and your vehicles gas cap!! Why? If you forget the psssword… only Jesus knows the answer! No one can open your vault door, but you! So, you’ll lose everything recorded. /
Doesn’t work with iOS14 Pro Max Camera
You can’t scan a barcode easily, if at all, using the app on an 14 pro max iPhone, because the app doesn’t have a tap-to-focus feature. Scanning on a iPad works perfectly, because there’s only one camera with no depth. The developers ask you to shake your phone to focus, I assure you it doesn’t work. Don’t waste your money, because there’s no account setup you cannot retrieve the data from the other device. Each device has its own products. I can only assume there’s an additional cost, but it’s unclear so don’t waste an additional $20 trying to figure it out. You’ve been warned.
Very Useful
I’m using this app to inventory and keep track of my card making supplies and it is working excellently!
NEEDS PDF REPORT FEATURE
Highly requested PDF formatting for reports so this app can be used for insurance purposes. Insurance company asks for photos of inventory to be able to process claim. Currently cvs and html formats do not meet those needs. Decent app, just adding PDF reports would make it great!
Buena app. Falta poder añadir factura
Sería perfecta si pudiera añadir factura/ticket de compra. Si en eso, la encuentro incompleta después de haber pagado casi 5€
Wow!!!
This app is awesome! If you like to organize! Anything and everything in case of a fire! If you have collectibles, heirlooms, handmedowns! Ect.and then some! This is the app for you
Import is Broken
Additional cost to IMPORT, however, appears broken. Exported ITEMS to create a Export Archive and a template to use. Filled out the CSV file and saved UTF8. Shared with Nest Egg and can see file in Nest Egg app under Shared Files, but cannot see the file in IMPORT. Saved again as zip file, shared again with Nest Egg, could see file in shared folder in app, but could not see it in IMPORT. Broken, please fix, help, or refund.
Very happy with it
I used it to make an inventory of our camping trailer as well as our workshop and I found it very useful when you need to find some obscure hardware part that you have in dozens of bins in your workshop or garage.
CSV Import Doesn’t Work and Develop Doesn’t Respond
My low rating is based both on a non-working feature and the lack of developer responsiveness. I had high hopes for Nest Egg, which I recently purchased along with its CSV Import add-on. Unfortunately, although the app store description says I should be able to import data from existing spreadsheets, that function is not working. I have a CSV file that contains items I’d like to use as a starting point for my inventory; although that CSV file is in my iCloud drive and has been downloaded to my phone, Nest Egg doesn’t seem to see it and there’s no option to tell it where to look. I have reached out to the developers twice—via the website and from within the app—but they have not responded. Maybe they’ll finally respond here.
limited bar code database
This product has no help in the app. It features ways to create catagories but scanning bar codes is not intuitive because you can scan ten things before the app recognizes one. This is something that sounds good but useless if i have to enter every barcode manually. A waste of money.
Best inventory app
I just love this app. It keeps everything I own stored locally on my cellphone. Just wish I could add tags on items
Does what it says, terrible experience
Downloaded this to do home inventory. I’d strongly recommend against using it. Data entry is a pain, with multiple clicks to create a record and snap a photo. It doesn’t auto populate anything from the previous record, so if you have 20 items in your living room to inventory you need to select living room each time. It cannot output to PDF and saves files locally which makes them really hard to export. You cannot even email them to yourself from the app. Wasted five bucks on this app for sure.
