It’s amazing and useful app for search of accommodation
It’s wonderful app plz must try
Not value for money
Very few rooms popping up in my area in uxbridge maybe for a weekly cost I can message one advertiser that’s all making it quite expensive.
Need an option to mark a message as “unread.”
Need an option to mark a message as “unread.” Sometime you accidentally click open a message and there’s no way to mark it as ‘unread’ and could end up forgetting to respond if you’re unable to reply immediately.
Mr
Filtering with key words does not narrow down to desired preferences
Using the app
Easy to use. But think having to pay to use the app isn’t cost effective and are already searching to find somewhere to pay to live. But all in all good tool and cool you can search for roommate as well.
Functionality
Easy to use
Over priced
App is so buggy and unreliable it’s horrendous to use. On top of that you have to pay extortionate prices to message people. Use any other app but this one
Ratings needed
This is my go to app to find tenants. However it’d be helpful to have some kind of rating system implemented that shows if someone hasn’t turned up to their viewing or responds very slowly or not at all etc. It’d be good to have analytics on who is a serious landlord/tenant.
Tommy
Why do I need to pay before I enquire about a room?
Expensive member
28£ /month for message the landlord is rip off .
SpareRoom who else ?
Have been using SpareRoom for over 15 years and would not use any other platform. Most certainly and unequivocally the BEST ♥️💎🤙🏽
Unable to login
I never had issues in returning to Spareroom and logging in with my Facebook account but it became impossible. Tried with google and apple and the same happened. Just deleted the app. Awful in all ways from scammers to not being able to even use the app. Life is already hard why make it worse for people?
Penalise No shows
It would be nice to see an option to swiftly report no-shows, specially if they don’t notify you with a few hours. I have had in the past a full week with evening appointments for viewings where only two out of ten showed up. The rest didn’t even bother cancelling, zero consideration for other’s time. People are cancelling/postponing things in their life to be available for you! Show some consideration or be penalised.
Better filtering
The app needs a filter to exclude or include students properties only. What’s the point of having tens of properties coming up on my search results only to find out that half of them it’s a student properties only. Also it would be great if it could be possible to search for rooms on a specific street instead of nearby only (sometimes the nearby it’s not that near)
Inappropriate low ball inquiries
I keep getting hits from people who aren’t suitable
Great!
Very good app with a simple and straightforward interface that allows you to quickly navigate the content and make connections with other people landlords and tenants.
I call it Spare dafty
Avoid it at all costs
Good App, annoying Users
Not a bad app overall, but I think Admin needs to start giving strikes to Flatmates that don’t respond after they put a listing up and maybe their listing gets taken off or moved to the bottom of the pile or something. There is literally an auto-reply feature so it’s quite irritating that people post their Ads and then don’t respond. Like I am paying to get first dibs and yet people are not responding.
Bug on download
I've had to delete & reinstall the app 3 times this evening & it keeps glitching out, I cannot seem to open the app at all for more than a milisecond. I even checked for updates but it should be downloading the latest version????
Ok
Ok to use. Not loads of options. Few weirdos. Verifying your identity with your ID costs £4.99 though (not really verification, just in app purchase dressed as verification).
Very efficient way to find a house mate!!
You will find a tenant or room very quickly using this site, it’s amazing thank you so much.
Massively gone down hill
Used to be the go to app, but paywalls and shadow bans have made this virtually unusable, I’ve been searching 4 months and don’t get any reply’s to any adds I’ve message, support staff don’t seem to know basic maths let alone how to organise a refund.
Spare room is good
I’ve been lucky with most of my tenants, although there are a few time wasters which is annoying! On the whole it’s a good app and a good way to find nice house mates.
Editing
Can’t seem to edit profile photo to upload a new one? Only offers previous uploads as options despite trying to delete them. Using IOS
Where are the app icon badges
Why doesn’t the app icon have badges when you have unread messages?
Qasim
Excellent service and I highly recommend to every one
It’s not perfect
Ive payed enough and still using the app for a few more weeks Getting in touch with landlords take days Also landlords don’t take down advertisements when rooms are full, I’m sure that’s in the T&Cs very annoying and unprofessional I think,

Fix no longer accepting applications filter
I’m currently going through the posted rooms list searching for available options. When I click on an option, sometimes I see no longer accepting applications. Please add the filter functionality to filter out all ads that are no longer accepting applications so that when I click on an ad, I would be ready to book the room rather than seeing no longer accepting applications. I honestly think that if an ad is no longer accepting applications then by default, the ad should be removed from the list.
A Gaxha
Great place to find what you need
Disappointing
The landlords exploit their tenants on this app to the maximum and the racism is alive in well in landlords and tenants who you share with disgusting situation disgusting management after disgusting service from spare room.
Exceptional
A lot of the ads seem promising and response rate is good it seems as I heard from my friends, although I did not get any 😝. However, reducing the price for thenfirst subscription seems to be fair ask.
No keyboard
The app can’t be used on an iPad as the keyboard doesn’t appear when trying to enter data.
Excessive charges and double dipping
Charging renters a fee to fill the vacancies your customers have is outrageous and double dipping at the same time because of the fact that not only does your customers have to pay to list a rental unit or room in your website, you also have the audacity to charge the renters; we the ones that actually rent those unit and make a possible for you as a company to profit from it! Business practices are not legitimate, and they’re gouging on both ends. I’m not sure whether your company pay attention to your competition. I will advise you, you should.
Excellent
I’ve been using Spare Room for over 7 years. I’ve been very successful and grateful for all the people I’ve had/found renting my late husband’s house and my daughter’s old room in my home. Great platform..
Avoid Avoid Avoid
SpareRoom feels more like a data-harvesting platform than a genuine rental marketplace. It's clear they're more interested in collecting user data likely for selling or marketing purposes-than actually helping people find a place to live. Their so-called "Early Bird" or paid membership is incredibly stingy and restrictive. You literally cannot contact landlords or tenants unless you pay, which defeats the whole purpose of browsing listings in the first place. It feels deliberately designed to force users into paying rather than offering real value. What makes this even worse is that plenty of other platforms-like OpenRent, Facebook Marketplace, or Gumtree-allow direct contact without locking basic functionality behind a paywall. SpareRoom's approach just feels greedy and unnecessary. Overall, the platform creates friction where none is needed. If you don't want to be pushed into paying just to send a message, there are far better alternatives or there.
Easy to use
This app is great. It's easy to use and there are heaps of filters to choose from to help with your search.
Linking Facebook creates a new account
I saw the option to link Facebook to your account, but doing so creates an entirely separate account — so what’s the point of seeing it if I’m already a user?? Do a Quality Assurance check on your UX.
a nice app and also Missedjudge
i wrote a 3 star due to lact of default. i posted an add for share a room with someone else. was place inappropriate. i have already seen this although i have to ask “spareroom”, does Person seeking Double bed also inappropriate? its basically a hotel. two separate beds in a shared room. what difference does what i did have any difference? anyways i won’t fret any further. there other apps other than “spareroom”. as far as the app states its a nice or optional to find roommates. or people who are traveling or students. although i can’t guarantee you will find much. as every were else. you have to be careful not to accept a good offer to quickly. since it fails to do background checks. while finding room it also comes with a default. @ to the reviewers at spareroom. i already submitted a resquest. “Jennifer-: site moderator” you should definitely look into the double bed option as its also meant for female and male. but its your app. thank you and good day.
Helped me so much!
I rented a room out in my flat for the first time and found someone in less than a month, Spareroom’s algorithm is incredible! Especially since I’m a woman, it made sure to show it to as many suitable female flatmates as possible.
Harassment
There’s an agent name Annabelle who is harassing me on emails and after taking the amount of subscription from me, she suspended my account. This company’s employees harass its customers, very disappointing experience with this app. Save yourself by not downloading this app, it’s a scam
Very good and helpful app
It is a very good app, it enables nice interaction between the landlord / agents and the prospective tenants. Though, I have not been successful yet in finding a property but hopefully I will get one. If they can create a bit of separate space for the landlord and tenants to interact separately (sort of a privilege user feature), away from the tenants and let the previous tenants/landlords/agents give reviews on each other then SpareRoom could come out as a complete home search solution.
Looking
I am writing some people to take a room and nobady answering
Ads mix up
The app mixed up the conversation with same person who has multiple properties advertised. You have to go back and forth to find which of the listed ads against an advertiser were you initially connected for
Great app
Find it so useful
An app for perverts
Bro I found so many perverts on this app istg I never uninstalled any app faster than this
Great Layout
I find the app easier and better to use then the website.
Upgrade
I don’t think it helps as much as you advertise. I would think you would receive more message within a short time frame. When first posted. I would ever pay extra but other than that it’s great to find good honest people.
Good but needs improvements.
Crash all the time. No option to sort.
