Captured “News”
News 24 helped the narrative supporting the capture of South African security and intelligence structures through their biased and selective reporting. A socialist Marxist organisation with no news value.
One flaw
Good in most respects, but really annoying that it flips back to the top of the list of headlines when you go back to the home page after reading an article. It should take you back to the headlines at the position you were when you clicked on the article so that you can continue browsing from where you were, like all other news apps that I use, instead of having to search all the way down from the top of the home page to find where you were in your browsing. Would be nice to have a fix for that.
Subscription renewal
Please advise if the app has a billing update process that does not require an email to a human agent who does not respond.

There’s a golden rule in life: If it ain’t broke, DON’T FIX IT ! There was nothing much wrong with the original version. The new version is rediculous.
Scam! Beware!
My app has been broken for more than a month. Can’t open any article. Tried to cancel subscription and screen keeps on loading. Sent an email to ask for support, no answer. But keeps on billing me.
Dark mode please
Great app, but dark mode would go a long way in improving the user experience.
Spoiler alert!!!!
Flashy headlines are cool but News24 keeps including the name of the winner in their notification that pops up on the screen, having no consideration for people who are recording a sporting event to watch when they get home. By all means, publish the story but don’t give away the name of the winner in the notification. Ruined two sporting events for me this weekend. Thanks a lot!
Bookmarks disappearing
When I bookmark an article in displays in my bookmarks section for a few seconds a then disappears. Why is this happening? Can it be fixed?
Freezes
I’ve recently downloaded and my experience has so far been less than ideal. The app freezes every time . Update- app has worked well for the last few days. No more freezing.

Very average app
This is not the best news app from an usability perspective and why is there no dark mode option?
Annoying subscribe banner!!
I am a subscriber to News24 but still get the extremely annoying banner advert selling a subscription when I open up the app. It’s also not possible to remove the banner by pressing the X at the top right of the ad. I have to go out the app, reset it on my phone and go back in. I can’t just open the app and read the news without this irritating advertisement. I kindly request that as a subscriber, this feature is removed.

Great one-stop for South African news.
Stupid UX
They now put a popup banner directly over the navigation controls so it leaves only two choices, click the banner and open an unwanted browser or quit the app and restart and hope it doesn’t return. Only writing this review because I took time to write to them twice and they didn’t bother because they just don’t care. Plainly developers don’t test properly or even staff don’t use their own app!
Keeping in Touch with Africa
Great news app for news back in Africa, especially South Africa. That said, when it comes to Zimbabwe, I often find a lack of news especially when events there are hugely relevant to the whole sub-continent as they were in January this year. Thanks.
Font is too small. Lots of frustration
The new version is terrible. The font is too small. All the whitespace on the side in landscape and portrait is wasted and the article font is too small to read for older readers. Why change it? Secondly every time an article is read and closed the app jumps back to the top - surely we the user wants to remain at the same spot in the scrolling where the article was opened - this is a terrible experience. Lastly why do you repeat main articles as you scroll down the articles. This is very frustrating and feels like you have underestimated the intelligence of the users. I am close to cancelling my subscription - I don’t want to scroll down and see the same stuff over and over again.
No currency reviews on latest update
Since the latest update 14/06/2022 I can’t see the latest currencies or commodity prices any more. Geoff

Great App.
Find News24 really helpful in keeping up to date with South African news whether it be to do with politics, sport or general issues.
Website has less bugs
Would be a decent app except for two big issues. 1) Often certain tabs fail to load with a message saying “you are currently offline” when I am definitely not offline. 2) Many articles cannot be opened, as in when you tap them nothing happens. If I open an article above or below one of these and then swipe sideways I just get taken to the next article I can tap on and open. So there are some articles I simply cannot access on the app. These issues persist after an app restart and refresh.
Not so happy
I complained that the font is very small and cannot be changed (iPhone &iPad). I was told to use it in landscape mode. The latest update said the font was enlarged, but it was not (if it was then by probably by 0.001pt). Please make the font changeable.

No night mode; and jamming a paywalled app absolutely FULL of ads is a sin.
Annoyances
1. Too much repetition of the same piece of news. 2. Why oh why do you have to include comment about women's processes in the hard news? I do not want articles about menstruation or orgasms mixed in with general news. Keep that for health pages ( for instance.) 3. But generally....a fabulous news resource, thank you.
Updates
Having endless problems. When swiping to the next article you get a different article to the one shown on the home page. Have reported this before via email. They say it’s fixed but it’s not. Last update is even worse. So many duplicate articles. Please don’t tell me to send an email or report a bug. It’s a waste of time as things don’t get fixed.

Can u make it user friendly please. As subscriber, if u signed once on same device, it should remember u..why must u sign onto the site everytime u wanna read locked articles ?

The old app worked well. Not all upgrades are an improvement.
Excellent for background, and updates
This app is great for getting up to the minute news - very important because things can change literally by the minute in South Africa. I tend to cross reference the political and business news with other sources as it tends not to be critical of the ruling party. A good app - I wouldn't be without it.
Problem
App just hangs - not opening some articles and then refuses to go back to main menu. Have to close it. Even deleted and reinstalled it. Same problem. Only started yesterday.
Ads
We do all the ads open when you are simple scrolling down. It's very annoying and it makes the ux very bad.

I find News24 very good for keeping up to speed with the news as it happens. I like the follow up articles on subjects and the range of input from across the spetrum.
Glitchy and slow
After updating these bigger tiles are useless. Opening one now jump to the wrong articles after loading, what feels forever. Fix your IT or I cancel!!
Huge improvement since April ‘20 update
Since the April 2020 update there has been a mammoth improvement in both speed and performance. No more hanging, crashing or lagging. I still however prefer the previous grid-style layout. As always the news content and reporting is top class.

Deceptive and Disappointing
Apart from the fact that there are several spelling errors I noticed within hardly an hour of downloading the app, they trick you by advertising various appealing stories, however, when you click to open an article, you are told to pay a subscription fee to access it. Disappointing.”
News 24 bugs?
I enjoyed the previous version of the app, but now it freezes constantly. I am working in USA and it was always nice to keep up to date of what’s happening in SA. Hope you sort out the bugs. I am tempted to delete the app
Concise and to point
Absolutely enjoy News24, the alerts are minimal and not intrusive, while the reporting is concise and to the point. No need for 8pm news report anymore.
HEAVY handed moderation
There is no place on the internet (except maybe some North Korean or Russian sites) that engage is such extreme moderation of comments and views that don’t alight with their own. Even if you write politics on topic comments. If it doesn’t align with their ideology, it gets deleted. Now as yourself, how trustworthy can a news site b that has such a love of oppressing views that they don’t like.

Content good, but iOs app 👎🏼
Note that you cannot use your Apple subscription to access News24 in your internet browser, even though there is a button to sign in with Apple. I was told to just use the app. Also tried to reinstate my subscription now through the app, am subscribed but cannot access articles 🙃😝

Within the first 5 minutes using the latest version, I could tell some thought went into changing that disaster version launched a few weeks ago. I’ll change to 5⭐️ if everything stays this way with a bit more use and the iPad version. Well done to the new team!
