No good for intonation
I bought this to set intonation on a guitar. And it’s not any good for that. It just keeps turning gray like it can’t hear anything. It also has a function that when you hit a target note , or get close, it grays out and stops. You can’t turn that off either. Soo annoying. Waste of money.
Almost perfect
I really wanna use this for work on my iPad mini and country but I will say after not using it for a few minutes it freezes up and I have to restart it. Can do that mid show.
Good as a phone app bad for my use cases
I purchased this app based off of good reviews here and on Reddit. From the day I purchased it I’ve been disappointed by the issues I’ve had. On my M4 IPad Pro it almost always displays the hz multiple octaves up (frequently double.) Also I cannot get my interface for my guitar to work with this app. It’s recording and sending input to the iPad but nothing is coming through to the app. I’m not sure if this is even meant to be supported but I resorted to trying it considering I could never get it to work normally. On my iPhone 15 Pro the app works almost seamlessly if I put my phone extremely close to the guitar. Any further away and it can’t hear it even on boost mode with the noise filter on. I tried turning them off and no input. It jumps octaves much less on the phone but it still does it frequently enough to be annoying. Some of this could be user error but I didn’t change any settings after downloading the app. In general the app works well enough and I’m sure the good reviews reflect good experiences. I just didn’t have a great experience myself.
9.99, not.
Sure this tuner is great and maybe better with the advertised features—like sweetened tunings. But there is no way to find out until you buy the app that they, and many other features are (a lot) extra. Why not state this clearly so that buyers know what they are (and are not) getting for the advertised price. Honestly, this is not honest.
Peterson #1
Anyone that doesn’t have a Peterson Tuner needs to look in a mirror and ask themselves what they are doing with their lives. This app does a lot and can be intimidating but the Sweetners are worth it and it takes time to understand it all. If you have questions contact Petersons Customer Service they are always willing to help and is one of the reasons why they have been in business for over 70 years. The only thing I wish they would add to the app is the ability to link my iPhone or iPad to my StroboPlus HDC with this app. My laptop died and have no way of changing out the tunings I currently have loaded on it.

Where is CLA in the presets
Good tuner. Worth the price but takes a little bit to get used to navigating the various menus and understanding all the acronyms. Very precise and could definitely tell the difference with my steel string guitar. One thing is finding stuff. Online I had read that the app had a classical guitar sweetener called CLA, but I can’t seem to find it. Ended up paying for the full sweetener bundle because I couldn’t seem to find where it was and still can’t. Maybe the developers can put a search feature in the sweetener section. Also if anyone knows where this CLA is let me know. Thanks.
not the best.
I purchased this tuning app to get precise tuning, and i’ll admit it does it well, but for some reason it’s constantly stuck on “F#” and will be stuck like that unless i play a note really loud.
Historical temperament
When using the generally used "equal temperament", I found it to be very sensitive, responsive, and easy to use. However, when using preset old temperaments (such as "Meantone” or "Werckmeister" etc.), the pitch of A changes depending on the temperament used. I think the likely reason for this is that the deviation value from equal temperament is set to 0 for the C note. Since it is a very easy-to-use app, I would like the preset deviation value of old temperament to be reset as "A=0 cent".

Doesn’t work as intended
This has to be about the worst thing Peterson has designed- constantly flashes between notes when I’m trying to tune an acoustic guitar in a whisper quiet studio environment- i don’t know how it can’t distinguish between an E and A string. I ended up just going back to my old insTuner app that’s cheaper and works.
Best Tuner wish it was auv3
Constantly use this tuner at home, randomly anywhere or on the road. One of the best 10 bucks I spent. Just wish it had auv3 support for other apps. Would buy again!
Overrated
Doesn’t track as well as other tuners I’ve used, especially with low notes. Display concept not especially helpful or innovative.
Needs new update!
While I have thoroughly enjoyed using this app through the years for it’s accuracy and convenience—I believe there are currently a few bug fixes that need to be address to improve compatibility with current iOS. My app has been dodgy ever since the last few iOS updates in my iPhone 11; I switched from the iPhone 11 to the iPhone 14 Pro recently, and it still has been very jumpy—it won’t lock in on the notes, even with the proper sweeteners and noise filters engaged. It also would be great if an updated dongle was offered—one that employed a Apple Lightning connector.
Not good
It requires you to buy additional upgrades asking for 50 dollars more on top of the 9.99 originally paid. I’m asking for a refund.
Deceptive features list
On their company site they list all the compensated tunings without clear mention when comparing that with the software tuners they and several other features aren’t included for the price as shown.
Awesome app, but could use a couple improvements.
I am a professional piano technician. While I have other professional piano tuning apps (ETDs), this app is very useful for certain aspects of piano tuning, especially the add-on “harmonics” feature. It is incredibly accurate and I am able to pinpoint pitch more precisely with this than my Peterson StroboPlus HDC. There is bug that I have alerted Peterson about, plus a feature that would be very useful not currently supported in the app. I mostly tone unequal temperaments, and when I chose Kirnberger III, for example, I have to set it to A 443 for it to produce A 440. Similarly, Kellner needs to be set to A 442.1. This is a huge inconvenience that really should be quickly corrected. Additionally, an app of this caliber should also have a feature to add other temperaments as does the Peterson StroboSoft HDC. If the bug listed was fixed and a temperament addition feature was added, I wouldn’t hesitate to give this a full 5 star review.
Out of date
App is functional but has not been updated at all in many years. No longer properly fits modern phone screen sizes. An update has been promised for over a year but nothing has yet been delivered.
Accordion Sweetners
I find the base app excellent and can’t add anything to existing reviews. The Accordion Sweeteners however proved very disappointing. Aside from “Cajun” about which I know little, there are three sweeteners for tuning three banks of treble reeds, ie a sharp set, a flat set and for the middle set you tune to concert pitch. That’s a pretty simple approach but so be it. My gripe is that the three fixed settings give you (in cents): “Dry”: -0.5 / 0 / +0.5 “Medium”: -1.5 / 0 / +1.5 “Wet”: -25 / 0 / +25 Those who know will understand the severe tuning limitations given the above. I wish I’d saved my $14.95.
Great App!
Very sensitive and accurate. We use it for fine tuning flutes in our workshop before they go out to customers and it works well.
Doesn’t work well on iPhone
App doesn’t work well, especially compared to the competition. Notes just don’t seem to track well, seems to be a sensitivity issue / calibration between mic input and the strobe UI. Love my strobostomp but this app isn’t worthy of the Peterson name.

Not very good
Not sure why but this tuner is not very good . Peterson are the best tuners in stompbox and bench tuner form. But this app really sucks. I have a brand new iPhone and I’ve tried it with it plugged in and through the mic and it’s all over the place can’t get a solid reading with it. It also won’t even pickup my bass at all really. Complete waste of 15 bucks.
Worth every penny
Hummed and hawed about purchasing this app as it is expensive. However it proved invaluable when setting up an arch top guitar with a floating bridge. Getting the bridge placement would have taken a lot of trial and error unless you have years of experience with this type of bridge. I got it nailed in 15 min. It is a bit twitchy to use but keep in mind this is a high resolution tuner designed to get the finest intonation from a vibrating string. Definitely a professional luthiers product. I have 2 other tuner apps which are good for getting close but with istrobesoft you get perfect pitch every time. Very impressed.
This is real tuning
Do it right. Completely worth the cost. Price a hardware tuner and tell me otherwise. Don’t sleep on the sweeteners packs. James Taylor knows it. Eddie Van Halen knew it: If you want your instrument to sound right, you can’t trust straight math tuning. iStrobosoft puts it where you want it to be, every time.
Nearly useless for electric guitar
I have a Peterson strobo clip tuner which I love to use, and I also like the sweetened tunings. However, this app can only use the microphone for its input. If you are using a guitar interface and amp sim for iPad or iPhone, you can only tune acoustically using the microphone, which does not work for a noisy environment. Huge bummer.
Super great... Except one thing
I see this app hasn't been updated in quite a while which is fine, because I think it's actually pretty close to perfect. I bought the hardware version (stroboplus hdc) and have a couple stroboclips, but honestly I prefer the app... The display is quicker and more accurate than the stroboplus and it's more powerful than the clips. HOWEVER, at some point, it seems to have lost the ability to rotate upside down, which is something I used all the time! It made it easy to have a power cable coming out of my phone and still have the display in portrait mode, offering the most visibility of the strobe. It was super easy to have it plugged in and sitting on a music stand or desk. Also I feel the mic pointing upward helped the tuner hear the instrument much better. Please bring this feature back!!! It seems like such an easy fix! Sincerely, a longtime user and fan
Frustrating
Appears to be a problem with 'harmonica sweetener ' package ($20 in-app purchase). Cannot register purchase in order to get a ticket for assistance, because the product does not appear on the list from which a product needs to be selected in order to register. Very scant information about use of the app with sweetener package. I wrote twice to support but have not received any acknowledgement after a week. Maybe the tuner works ok but the $20 sweetener pack appears to be a dud
Fundamentally excellent, desperately needs updating
A brilliant strobe tuner. But as of August 2020 it has not been updated in years: • On iPadOS 13 some UI elements drift half off-screen so, for example, sweetened tunings are awkward to select. • The app has no integration with iOS audio routing: you can’t add it to an aux out of another app or route to it via Audiobus or AUM. • The app is full-screen only. • Also it seems you cannot import or create sweetened tunings, only use preset purchased ones.
Great for working on intonation on horns
I spent a lot of time with a physical strobe tuner as a kid and it helped my tone and intonation on sax immensely. This app is so useful to have when working on long tones, not to mention portable.
Deceptive business practices
The initial purchase price unlocks a crippled version of the app, and it is $60 to get a discounted bundle of features. I bought this to basically preview the method the hardware uses to tune, and now I’m totally put off and will be buying another brand of strobe tuner. In-app purchases shouldn’t be displayed as app features you get for your initial also high prices for an app $9.99. I wish Apple made it easier to get a refund. Completely dismayed at this travesty of marketing. $70 buys me hardware, the app shouldn’t cost more than the actual hardware.
Accurate and easy to use
Like others who have posted reviews, I would like it to hang on to notes for longer, this aside the iStroboSoft is fast and accurate, especially for setting intonation. I had to adjust most of the saddles on my bridge and my guitar is more in tune now, very impressive.
Latest version disappointing
Loved this app until the latest update. On iPad at least display is dimmed, all strobe bands move together, so no sense of 'getting close' and generally not enjoyable to use. Desirable extras offered at a price, but do they work any better? Find myself not using it now. Hope next update will be better.
Incorrect display
Since the last update the bottom of the display is missing on the iPhone SE screen.
The only iOS tuner for the serious player.
There are lots of tuner apps available, some better than others, but if you’re looking for a truly professional grade tuner app, this is the only way to go.
Rip off!
This app is so bad. It keeps freezing up on my iphone 13. When it does work it is unable to tune my acoustic guitar correctly. What a waste of money. Do not buy this. Then I asked for a refund and they said they can’t do that. I need to go to Apple for my money back. This must be a scam of an app. My free fender tuner app works so much better than this junk.
My favourite tune
This is better than both my DT10 and TC Polytune hardware tuners. Noticeably improves tuning. Wish it grabbed notes for a bit longer, but perfectly usable as is.

Yes.. But...
I like the idea of this app.. A classic strobe tuner right on your phone..! I really want it to work for me, particularly with a pedal steel guitar.. But it jumps around a lot.. One string can quickly be represented as 3 different notes, even with filters and boosts. You get a couple of strings, a feeling of confidence, then... I have had success in a quiet room, with the phone mic and an acoustic, but things are never quiet for around here for long.. I have the Peterson cable for the phone, sometimes it picks notes up, sometimes it's lazy and no amount of jiggling the cord will bring it back...

I’ve patiently waited for updates to improve note recognition and have been disappointed. I have the paid version of the app, but can’t justify adding upgrades until this is fixed
Bugs in new version
Ok so they seemed to have fixed the bugs I found in the last version, which is great! BUT in future you would think their unit tests would pick them out. Come on Pieterson software devs! Ok so the tuner is not as easy to use as other popular iPhone tuners... BUT WAIT! It all depends on how 'in tune' you like your gtar, if like me you are particular about this, then no question; GET THIS APP! HOWEVER there is still a couple of bugs around the manual tuning option that need fixing... So Pieterson if you are listening the quality of your apps reflect on your more expensive counterparts - physical tuners. So as a customer promise if you could get your app working perfectly, I would be willing to buy the pedal tuner, the app is great, don't get me wrong but I have gotten addicted to it and the harmonic way it assists my guitar but would like a tuner at my feet so I would t have to pick up my phone. As a software developer I would love to see your agility in responded to app defects and listening to your customers. All the best James

So I bought this app a while back. Then it stopped working so I went to delete it then re-download it, hoping for the problem to be fixed. This usually fixes any app problems. Normally, iTunes remembers which apps you have previously purchased, so why is iTunes attempting to charge me for an app I've already paid for?
Pretty good - would be 5 stars with temperments
This is a great tuner - better than the half-dozen others I have on the iPhone. Nothing beats a strobe tuner! I have the PolyTune app but it's nowhere near accurate enough for me. I'd use this tuner exclusively except for one glaring issue: there are no tempered tunings. I know Peterson probably avoids including them because it would cause a massive drop in their pedal tuner sales, but I'd pay a premium for their sweetened tunings in this thing (hint, hint)!
Really like this app!
This app is useful for me. I am a vocalist with a strong singing voice. However, when I hear a note from a pitch pipe, I can’t always hit it. I sometimes sing a note in the chord harmony instead. I might be a major or minor third off. I take this app to choir and I’m sure I’m hitting the desired note.
Waste of time
This thing just jumps around all the notes never ever settles on a note. Probably the worst I have come across! Totally useless!!

Handles acoustic guitar well, has slight trouble with violin, but a mute helps.

Having read the first review I thought 'why not it might help in some circumstances' but after sitting with an electric guitar on my knee for five minutes (unplugged) I realize they have a way to go on this app. It failed to identify a low E and D string which the other tuners I have had no difficulty identifying, the noise filter made things worse and it couldn't identify any note at all without the 24db lift in place.
Great App until..
I downloaded this and it worked great, and the same day I upgraded my iphone to os4 and now the strobe function doesn't work. Although I can still tune by using the up/down arrows, it was disappointing that I was only able to use this fully for one morning. I am hoping they will come out with a fix on the next upgrade because I really did like this app.
