Love this game

No force pay but a couple nice upgrade packages if you like. No ads whatsoever. The plot is really engaging and everything is written with such humor. The idle upgrades are super satisfying and the crafting chains get more complex every time I think I’m finally getting all my upgrades in. 10/10

There are too many bugs to play now. When I get to the 5th settlement I’m no longer able to advance in the game, making it unplayable so I’m having to delete a game I’ve loved for years. Ive also put money into this game so this is disappointing!

Do not pay for this

The game itself is pretty fun actually, I spent a significant amount of time building up and slowly grinding through gameplay bits and it was a blast, got all the way through act 4. If you notice now, that is paid content. I am officially unable to do anything now due to being ahead of free content, because the dev took what was free and now asks for money. 2 stars for a good game, and can count the sheer fact I did still enjoy getting to where I was in content that the horrible choice doesn’t knock it down another star into god awful garbage

good but

Hi I’m enjoying this but the find dragon’s island daily reward quest is needlessly greedy, not to mention the feed the animals. They are both designed to eat up your shards and get you to pay more, and neither of them give spirits- which is the especially weak part. Seeing as I’ve already given you guys a good deal of money, I do not appreciate this. If you make then give spirits, that would be a good fix I think

Fun but very late pay wall??

I enjoyed this game quite a bit as soon as I started, bought the Gold Upgrade like as soon as I unlocked the Spirit Wells. Chapter three involves a secondary type of army (boats) and voyaging north. But as soon as you unlock the northern settlement and then do the population objective, you will be directed to build a Yak farm. But that’s part of a “Decoration” pack that costs real money. I already spent money on something not even required to progress. That’s not what Decoration or Cosmetic means.

Enjoyed it until..

This is/was a really fun game until you reach the paywall. I understand a game has to make money for it be successful and I may even come back to this but I was looking for good free games when I came across this one. Other than the paywall a lot of the game was enjoyable. It kept you interested in the different menus. There was almost always something to do and it even directed you towards some buildings and other that would help you progress more smoothly. On the other hand there were a few things that weren’t explained at all and it seemed like this game could use its own encyclopedia to keep track of and explain things

Great Game Tainted by AI images

Please remove the AI-generated images and replace them with… anything really. If I had been a new player when I noticed the AI stuff, I would have stopped playing the game. Most of the images of characters are artist-created, but there are some landscapes of mountains or towns that are very obviously AI-generated. It’s a shame that these eyesores are there to drag down the experience because everything else is great. I love Home Quest and I think it is otherwise a wonderful game, but I’m looking forward to the developer removing the AI trash that is hurting the gaming experience.

Simple but complicated. Boring but fun.

Update regarding the major update: A LOT of work went into this update and it looks amazing. Sadly, though, the gameplay took a hit. I think it’s possibly more appealing to the new player, but I was used to things the way they were, and now just about everything has been moved or changed in a way that makes the game more tedious than fun. Again, the game (for what it is) looks great! But I liked the minimalist design of the original, especially if it means keeping the gameplay more interesting and balanced. Several nerfs in this update also have me frustrated. Golden artifacts, for instance, were already hard to come by… but they now come one at a time instead of three. Why? To lengthen the game maybe, but at what cost? My desire to play is now diminished. Awesome 5-star game has sadly dropped to four stars. Original review: Just kidding about the boring part. Although the lack of graphics might turn away the Fortnite crowd 😜 I love this kind of game, and there’s something about the building and worker distribution processes that strike the right chord with me. It would be cool if we could sell or trade off some excess buildings (I have a surplus of farms). Maybe in a similar way to how we can “trade in” army units for stuff by sending them to Valhalla; there could be a way to recycle unused buildings for material or something else useful.

★★☆☆☆ United States · v4.0.9 · 17 Jun 2024

Absolute chore, clunky, aggravating

I’ve played dozens upon dozens of idle and incremental games including all the major/classic ones (Kittens Game, Antimatter Dimensions, NGU, Trimps etc) plus a ton more mobile-only ones. This one just does not feel good on multiple fronts. It starts off really good and addicting but the bottlenecks just feel so bad to encounter at multiple different stages, and working through them by having to go through arbitrarily contrived timewalls is seriously painful. There’s a system where you have to build up something called “mercury” and “honor”. For your first 20+ hours playing this game (where I’m still currently at, at about mid-game from what I’ve seen) the only way to get these is by fighting waves of enemies that come in sets of 200, which gives you 200 honor. That amount of honor does not scale until who knows when (I’m still getting that measly amount when I need thousands) and to make matters worse, there is a cooldown of 10 minutes or so between battles, plus a 1 second delay between the waves themselves which adds up to a ton of additional wasted minutes when you’re having to do 200 waves x 100s of battles. To make all of this worse, offline progress seems to not start or register quite right for battles so you’ll come back to somewhat stagnated progress at times for reason I don’t know. You finally beat the next storyline advancement obstacle and your reward for finally overcoming it is… having to wait an hour to travel to a new settlement for absolutely no reason whatsoever. There’s no way to speed this up with active play, it’s just thrown in because it’s supposed to be an idle game but in the most ham-fisted way. I mean there’s even 5 second delays to complete quests after tapping the green button for again no reason whatsoever. Just completely awkward and poor game design. Apparently this game recently underwent a major update/overhaul which was mostly negatively received so I wish I had been able to play it when it was actually good instead of this seemingly downgraded version of it. I even bought the $10 pack when I was still at the beginning and it was still good because it seemed to have potential but now I regret it and am just trying to complete it out of spite, which again is really just a terrible thing. I’d recommend avoiding, you’ve been warned.

Accessibility took a hit.

It took a while to get used to most of what everything meant on the old version, when using VoiceOver. Now, it's a completely different game, hard to understand, and in spirits, everything says level up, whether it's done or not. It was sort of okay until today when a new version of the new one came out, and it was already difficult, but this just made it even more difficult. Not sure what got enhanced, but it definitely wasn't anything having to do with accessibility. Some things in the new version, you get more of, and some, you don't, you even get less. The other frustrating thing is, when you open the game, it gives you a thing saying you only got 50% of your stuff because you didn't pay to upgrade, which wasn't the case before. I think that that needs to be changed back, screen that you have to close every single time. That in itself is enough to get some people to stop playing the game. We don't need an advertisement for what's already in the purchases menu. For those of us who were used to the game the way that it was, it was fine, but with the new version, we can't even find most of the stuff. I can't even figure out how to get to honor to upgrade anything. I'm about to give up on the game and just quit. It was already difficult to figure out because there are literally no instructions, but now it's impossible! I have games that I have played for over a decade, and then I have games that have made so many changes that they're not even the same games anymore, and I quit them, and I'm not the only one. Making changes to games is one thing, but completely changing the game is a completely different thing. You would've been better off just coming up with a new game and leaving the old game the way it was.

Fun game, good story, but can’t afford the payed version

Don’t get me wrong, the free version is great. I enjoy this game enough to want to buy the premium version but it’s out of both my price range and, I think, more expensive than the value of the upgrades. If it were under $10 to get all 3 I could swing it it ~13 cad is a lot for the limited functionality of the game.

Poorly planned update ruined what was a good game.

The most recent update, which “overhauled” the core mechanics of the game, has completely made me lose interest in this app. They’ve made the grinds longer, introduced waiting times where there were none before, and straight up removed certain mechanics in the game that were genuinely fun. I paid $10 for the “millennium” edition of this game a month ago, and as of this most recent update all of my previous paid perks are gone. Everything I paid good money for is now either free or completely gone from the app. Of course, now the develops released a newer paid version for an additional $10. The developers are scummy, taking a once beloved game and making it harder to progress while removing all previous paid benefits, NOT WORTH YOUR TIME.

Fun idle game marred by AI

Out of the myriad idle games I’ve tried, this is one of the most polished I’ve seen. Even before the recent updates, it featured several means of development of your settlements and various resources, your army and navy both being distinct vehicles for more involved gameplay, and multiple avenues of progression tied into each other so that you have to pay attention to the decisions you make. It is still an idle game, but it’s a neat one that I at one point was fine giving some money. At this point however, I regret having done so, because the recent updates involve the usage of AI-generated art. This is very disappointing, and I cannot in good conscience ever recommend it (or make any more in-app purchases) until they hopefully remedy this mistake by hiring an actual artist rather than using an algorithm to steal from artists for an inferior product.

Great Game, Fun and Addicting

This is one of the best pseudo-afk games on the App Store for sure. Not too much actual AFK’ing is required, you basically get what you need by taking a snack break every now and then. Wish I could revert update 4

I just installed the latest update and to be honest, I really dislike it. The game is the same but all the intuitive buttons and layouts have been changed and moved to ones which are more intrusive and visually displeasing, with things that were once in one tab now being shuffled to another. Towns are more zoomed-in, preventing me from seeing the full scale, and the buttons to change towns are now on top of the building buttons, making it cover even more of my town. The new spiritwell graphic is baffling - some of my spiritwells are grey and some are blue, even when I haven’t activated any of them - and it makes the game look like a cheap knockoff of what it was before. My superwells are missing, not accessible in any tab of the game. It takes several more taps to access various battles, when before I could just see all locations on one screen. In addition, it logged me out of my account upon updating and won’t let me change my password or confirm which email I used before, preventing me from being signed back in - this is problematic for multiple reasons. One, because it says that, once signed in, my save will change to the one on my account, which means any progress I make until I sign in will probably be reverted; two, now I can’t access the other empire I had in another save slot. Essentially, the update has made the game nigh unplayable. If there turns out to be no way to undo this update, I probably won’t play the game anymore, which is a disappointment after years of enjoying it and playing consistently.

Honestly fantastic

The game ended up being way better than I expected. I saw the graphics and few reviews and anticipated kinda a simplistic idle game with few things to do, but I was happily surprised to be completely wrong. I’d say the game has a perfect balance between complexion and simplicity where it makes you feel like you’re really involved with advancing while gently guiding you without flat out telling you stuff. Plus it’ll have a little area, that I love, that gives a little recommended next step to improve your towns and armies etc that you don’t have to follow but is nice to pay attention to. I pretty quickly decided to support the devs with buying the other chapters of the game, which totally aren’t needed, but I could tell early on that it was one of the few idle games I actually get completely hooked on and check a lot. Thank you devs!

This is always a main feature for me because it a game is truly solid, then they don’t need to rely on ad revenue. If the game is worth it then people will pay for more. Secondly, the level of detail in the game alone is worth the rating, but the story line and mechanics and just all of it are top tier. I truly don’t have any gripes with the game. This game shows promise, but I've run into a bit of an issue. To progress, I am trying to get my army to 100 units in size. To do that, I need to be able to hold way more resources than I can now. But to upgrade past 17 storage facilities, I need 1k more bricks and boards than my facilities can currently hold in the first place. Methinks some rebalancing needs to happen. The treasury screen could use some work accessibility wise, as well. Some pieces of info don't line up.
