What people like
- Great selection of classic anime
- Free version works well enough
- Good for binge watching old series
What they complain about
- Ads play even if you pay
- Support never actually helps or replies
- App crashes and freezes often
- Video quality looks bad on some shows
Pretty solid but canceling membership is rather difficult
The app is really well implemented and the fact that’s it’s ad free is always a plus. However, I’m having a tough time canceling the membership since I signed up using the tv as well as my phone but I used the same bank for both.
Not functioning properly
Not sure whats's going on, but I am unable to watch most shows on the platform. The application is giving me a " not available in my location" error even when I try to open a video, even though I was watching those episodes just fine the other day. Something weird is going on and the app needs to be fixed.
Fine but some issues:
The app itself is serviceable. Some problems though. 1. The third party ads. RetroCrush will make you watch some of their own ads, which are kind of a treat if anything. They’ll show off some of the anime in their selection, which can make you aware of what you might want to watch next. But when those ads aren’t playing, you’ll get some from their sponsors. And I have to say, they don’t have very interesting sponsors. You’ll usually see a bunch of gory horror slop, or they’ll play the exact same ad multiple times. It just feels like you’re not getting any “normal” ads. 2. They keep asking you for cookies, even if you accept or reject them. 3. Oh, and if you make an account they’ll keep asking for your Apple password every time you open the app even though entering it or not doesn’t do anything. So just… don’t make an account unless you want to subscribe I guess. 4. The live TV schedule doesn’t update unless you restart the app, so unless you have a strong awareness of the schedule, you may end up missing something you wanted to watch. Not really app related, but I notice Retrocrush isn’t on Dish BonusView anymore too. Shame.
Log-In/Sign-Up is missing.
Using an “iPhone SE3”. Can’t see the sign-up button or log-in link when inputting my credentials. Tried everything to resize text, turn bold text off & use accessibility option with no help. The button for sign-up keeps disappearing as soon I input my credentials, the website logo takes up all the screen. • App needs redesigned when signing-up & log-in (account I already have). Sadly, this app doesn’t support phones with smaller screens like the iPhone SE 3 or iPhone 6e.
The display for live tv
The display for live streaming is showing up after I click off to clear it. Please fix this asap
Please fix FireTV app
The FireTV app won’t play the live channel. Please fix this

Any chance of getting Cybersix in Canada?
My subscription isn’t working
I have an active subscription but when i try to watch, it’s telling me that i have to have a subscription. What is going on? If it’s not working I need my money back. Thank you
Mediocre
It’s ok. Everything now is subscription required.
Incredibile
Amazing app! I haven’t been able to find an anime app that works with minimal ads until this one! Great for binge watching!!
Cannot access any content
Can’t watch any exclusive content! I paid for the yearly subscription and it tells me something went wrong!
Not even letting me subscribe
It’s not even. 😤
Has potential, but broken
I was enjoying this app for a few days. There were some bugs like sign-in issues, remembering what I last watched, etc. The content I want to watch is still easy to get to, and this is app looks like the only legit way to watch some of it, so I can live with these inconveniences. This morning, the app stopped playing video. It opened up with a still image of the first ad, and then went nowhere. I reinstalled, and the same thing happened. I’m disappointed to let this app go. I’d like to see them fix these bugs.
Buggy app, but good selection
I like the selection. Unfortunately the app itself is pretty wonky. I get the same pop up about logging into my Apple account several times while I'm browsing. Also several of the anime I wanted to watch were also on Tubi, so I decided to use that instead since there are less ads. It would be great if the app could tell you whether there's an English dub. Every show I open shows the language as unknown.
Apps keep breaking
The phone app works fine but the app on my smart tv doesn’t at all the ads break the shows I’m watching completely I’ve tried everything that’s been recommended to me but nothing works it does the same thing on the AsianCrush app as well on my tv
Not a good experience
The app serves way too many ads for a paid subscription-based service. Also, the ads buffer and sometimes stop playing completely, forcing me to restart the app, which then serves more ads. Customer support was responsive, but ultimately unable to help. As soon as I've finished the one series I want to watch, I'm out of here.
It’s a Rock-Solid streaming service.
All-in-all, this app is a great companion streaming service for those who love old school anime (especially since it’s free and there’s a solid selection of movies, OVA’s, & shows from the 1970’s to the late 2000’s). My main complaints: -There isn’t an easy way to save complete tv series to your favourites. You can only favourite individual episodes. You also can’t look at your saved favourites. -Some programs and shows, which were advertised in the infomercial, are not available on the service yet. For example, CyberSix, Dirty Pair, & the Cardcapture Sakura feature film (along with the original series) are absent. -I wish you can swap the audio tracks & enable subtitles on the fly, rather than having two separate options for sub & dub. Netflix & CrunchyRoll does this with relative ease, so this feels counter intuitive. -There isn’t a browser option, though I’ve heard it’s in the works.
My favorite selection, the worst app and support
The catalogue of anime RetroCrush has is MY ENTIRE JAM, but it’s too frustrating. I had a paid subscription and kept getting the same amount of ads as a free user would. Customer support was aggravating and unhelpful. Also, the app doesn’t work on Xbox, and the iPad one is super janky and requires portrait orientation for browsing. I’ve finally just unsubscribed and started a trial through Amazon Prime Video. (No ads so far)
App repeatedly asks for Apple ID password after login
After logging into my RetroCrush account, the app forces me to enter my Apple ID password every time I open the app, which is quite inconvenient.
A question
First of all I love this app 100/10 because I love old anime then the modern era anyway could u maybe put 90’s anime in the app like Yu Yu Hakusho & Ur Under Arrest & gunsmith cats please overall this app is amazing then other anime apps so pls could u put those anime’s in the app please!
No anime
I search up all the popular anime’s I know and none of th show up. The only reason I downloaded this app was to watch those anime’s.
Pretty good overall
Good choice of anime and I can’t complain too much because it’s the best free app that I’ve found for what I hope is legal anime, but there are a lot of adds that do get in the way about 3mins of adds per 10min episode, I can’t see people who already have a bootleg site changing over anytime soon but over all it’s pretty good.
Subscription
Paid the 5$ monthly and it still says “pay for subscription” and “already registered” if I go to watch a premium show
I Can’t Find Popular Anime’s
So I downloaded this app because the other reviews were pretty good. When I got in to watch some of my favorite anime’s it had none of them.If you want to find new anime’s get it but otherwise don’t.
Loop problem
My shows aren’t on a loop anymore not sure why when It did on old version. Please help other then that great selections all i watch is retro anime anyway this is my only problem since I’ve gotten so used to it
Bugged App
Won’t allow me to even sign in after purchasing a subscription. Whether that be through the app or on the website. Not to mention the TV app signs me out after every other episode. APP NEEDS WORK!!!
Retro crush
I can’t watch any more episodes and it saying please try after some time
Love the Content
Amazing classic anime. The app bugs are what prevent me from subscribing to premium. They’ve made definite improvements but introduced other bugs. Now on iPhone you can’t sign in (signing up is the only option). Additionally, on Apple TV when watching a title there is no way to go back to the app (pressing back closes the app).
It’s ok
Only problem is that they took the best show off ghost stories it’s so funny and they took it off I only download for it
I want my money back (and don’t bother downloading this app)
For 3 months I paid for premium membership so that i could watch certain anime’s that I would need to have membership for. Nothing happened. They took my payment but I still wasn’t able to watch anything locked for premium access. THEN, when I tried to cancel my membership, it kept saying “error.” I tried to contact support, but to no avail. This went on for 3 months.
Won’t let me
In the app won’t let me register so I can’t watch a bunch of shows that I wanna watch because the keyboard won’t move out the way on iOS
Issues with the redesign
It’s hard to see more than one anime at a time, and a lot of the titles/descriptions on the homepage are white text on a light colored background. Hadn’t opened the app in a while, and was disappointed by the featured content on the homepage The broadcast tv feature looks nice now though!
Best friend
Watching the story lines an understanding as an adult makes these so priceless. Thank you for such a great app idea
Bad I can watch Oshi no ko season 2 and only OLD anime from awhile ago
I can't even watch 2024 or 2025 anime because I love the new ones like oshi no ko season 2 and season 3.😞 hope you add new ones....
Poor Quality = Bad Experience
I decided, against my better judgement, to pay for a subscription to RetroCrush. That was a mistake. Let me detail the reasons why: 1) One well-known short series I watched was formatted poorly. It was not deinterlaced so it had lines through scenes with motion. Also, it only had a dubbed version. I normally watch subtitled but I’ll watch an English dub if I have to. Still, bad formatting + bad dub = bad experience. 2) Another subscription only series I watched was also poorly formatted. The picture overscanned so I couldn’t see the edges of the video. Yes, my TV and device are set up correctly, it is the rip they’re streaming that’s the issue. It would have been OK, but the subtitles were cropped slightly which resulted in either just an annoying subtitle, or a hard to read subtitle. Bad formatting = bad experience. 3) App crashes occasionally on continuing a show in progress. Say, if you pause the show, exit the app, then come back later. Annoying? Yes. Manageable? Sure, but shows a lack of polish. Poor quality app = bad experience. 4) “Continue Watching” section in watchlist frequently forgets what show you were watching. I finished episode 4, it thought I was still on episode 3. I went to continue watching another show (only watched two episodes) and it no longer showed up in “Continue Watching.” Episode 1 showed there before I watched another episode, so what gives? Poor usability = bad experience. 5) Episode lists and movies don’t show the fact you’ve watched them already. No checkmark, no progress indicator, no other affordance. Couple this with the problem in item 4 above (and to a lesser extent item 3 too), and this makes it hard to know where you are in a series. Deficient UI = bad experience. My final verdict is: if you’re using it for free, OK, sure you get what you pay for. If you pay to subscribe though, you get access to a little more content and it’s ad-free but the overall experience is that of a poorly made, free app, with substandard video encoding and a hackish attempt at an interface. In a word: BAD but it cost you money. Don’t go against your better judgment on this one.
Decent enough but Apple TV not working
it’s not a bad service the free version is excellent hopefully the premium offerings will increase over time enough to justify the annual subscription costs I only say that because you could plow through the premium in a month or two tops my only other issue is recently the app no longer works on Apple TV I try to reload the app and still the same thing and on my iPhone and iPad it works fine so I think since the update something went wonky so maybe another update is due
Nuria Johnson
This app has better than any other app that I use before.
Great Idea, Terrible Execution
I’ve been watching Rose of Versailles on my Roku TV and every single episode freezes for a minute throughout the show at random periods. It’s super annoying. I’ve tried every solution on my end and nothing works; my other streaming apps are fine. I reached out to customer service through email and they never responded. They don’t even respond on here! Get some customer service! I thought I would try watching on my iPad to see if that worked any better and it’s even worse. The search function doesn’t work at all; anytime I try to look something up I get a “no data found” error message. You guys very obviously don’t know how to create a functioning app. What a shame. I’m going to uninstall this permanently and switch over to Crunchyroll. RetroCrush is unusable and I’m tired of trying to make it work.
Love this app for the live feature…
I’ve tried to sub to the premium so I didn’t have to watch ads but it never let me. I’ve never seen an app that wouldn’t take my money before! I also can’t do a star rating. So… anyway, I turn the volume down super low and turn it on live then take a nap. So…. Good for that I guess.
Better
Apple TV app crashing was fixed.
Retro
Used them for years. They great
Nothing to watch
I can’t watch anime
Why no landscape mode?
I was happy with Retro Crush until the last upgrade. Now it is only portrait mode which does not work for my viewing setup. Why did you remove Landscape mode? You lost a viewer because of it.
not my type of app
this app is pretty good for those who are into the older anime series. there are no animes that are popular right now (my hero academia, attack on titan, etc.), only older series. i did try to get into a series on this app that looked interesting to me, but there are many ads that are too long. i would not recommend this app for those who are looking for the most recent and popular animes, because it will not be there. there’s not even ghibli films believe it or not.
