What people like

  • Gives real-time alerts about space events
  • Great educational tool for families and kids
  • Shows exactly where the signal came from

What they complain about

  • Too much technical jargon for normal users
  • Crashes on startup for some iPhone users
  • Users get banned from chat for no reason

For the layman too

It’s a very interesting app that also color codes for gravitational wave events of interest , and has a little thingy to actually point to the sky were the signal is coming from. Makes you wonder.

it will never make waves

I’m disappointed

Great app - could do with a few tweaks

But then again, too few to mention! (Just some UI/screen scaling/link info stuff) Keep up the good work :-}

Inscrutable

Unless one is involved w LIGO there’s little useful info presented to a civilian.

Really cool app

Cool to get it in real time. I wish there was more explanation though, lots of jargon, explain the graphs etc.. also, we can’t login to the site that is linked because it seems to not be for “regular” users. Would love to be able to download the notification sound too! Awesome content though nice to see.

So much fun and learning

As a family we are enjoying this app. We will run across an event and that will bring up other questions so we end up learning something every time

I am so offended.

I got banned for saying three things that were “not relevant.” I did not cuss or say anything inappropriate. I deeply respect science.

Fascinating GW App

It’s hard to believe you can get instant notifications on gravitational wave events on your personal smartphone. That we can detect them at all is a miracle of modern science. I must admit however that much of the info presented in this app is technical and over my head, with numerous acronyms I don’t understand and technical data given that I cannot interpret. Thus, the app could be improved if there were significant descriptions and background info on GW events, the various detectors, the info presented, etc. Photos of the detectors for example and graphics would be super helpful. Thanks, B

Useful tool

Been using it for years. Very nice. One suggestion: it would be good if the database could be searched (e.g., show all Vera Rubin circulars). Maybe it’s the already and I don’t know how to access it.

Lay explanation

Love the app. As a lay person I would prefer a link to the real time notification that explains in everyday language (no jargon, no acronyms) as to what happened when and to what was just reported. The broader the audience that you maintain the more interest and support for your project you will garner.

Fun app

Fun and educational receiving real time alerts on gravitational waves coursing through our time and space.

★★★★☆ Canada · v2.1.3 · 17 May 2023

Solid

UI does what it is supposed to, doesn’t crash, all data and links are there — physicists on point for function, as expected. Navigation could use some love to make it a bit more enjoyable, and maybe a better texture/colour scheme — physicists on point for fashion, as expected.

Gravitational waves app

This is in fact the coolest thing ever!!! I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

For Professional and Amateur Astrophysicists

As an amateur astrophysicist this app has brought the science of gravitational wave detection to me. The real time alerts are exciting and with the links to more information, along with the ability to chat with others within the app, I have learned so much. This app makes the cutting edge science tangible and first person. LIGO’s entire Open Science commitment is incredible.

New Science at its best

Exciting & field breaking gravitational wave detection will become the new telemetry as did all the other scopes. LISA funding is more important than ever, just saying!

The ultimate linked in…

Straight up top-drawer info source for real time data detailing actual warps in the space we inhabit, all around us, as immersed as it gets. (There; feel that? Maybe just a fraction of the diameter of a proton, but it’s the real thing. Some fun, eh?) Einstein would be tickled pink…

Fun

Toured Hanford and was amazed by the technology. Then I asked “where’s the indication that the detector saw something” and was astonished when told that the facility had no such readout. Looking back I’m guessing everyone there had this app on their phone. Great work and thank you for sharing!

Best app for gravity waves

If knowing what cataclysmic events happened billions of years ago is interesting, this is where the information and the alerts are.
