Suggestions!!
I like this app and can confirm that it has helped extend my vocabulary and understanding of complex words. One suggestion: please add streak freezes like many other learning apps have!! There’s going to be days when people forget to open the app or have an awful day and from experience, loosing your nearly-a-year streak can be highly demotivating.
Charges you immediately
Says it will give you seven day free trial but I got charged immediately on accepting the “free” trial
It’s okay
Although a definition is provided for each word, the app also needs to provide an etymology for each. It also needs to quickly remove words I do know. I feel as though I keep wading through words that I have already mastered to get to those I don’t know, and I can’t see a way to upgrade the difficulty of my current level setting so that I can be introduced to more words that I might actually not know yet. Great idea but needs more work for my needs.
Wonderful use of your time!
This app is enjoyable to use. Everyday you are quizzed on previously seen words while throwing in a tattering of new words. It’s just challenging enough without being overwhelming. There are games allowing you to test your understanding better and reinforcing what you’ve already learned. I’m on 52 straight days since purchasing the application and look forward to completing my word task every morning with my coffee. Highly recommend!
Shady business practice
I downloaded this because I saw an ad for the game and it looked like it was really cool. It was when I downloaded and realized that they placed you on a trial that you need a reminder to cancel or they’re gonna charge you for and I’m like what I don’t even understand why I should pay for a game like this in the first place, so not only that, but I think it’s crazy that they would put you in danger of having to pay for the membership if the trial runs out so I wanted to have nothing to do with this app and deleted it immediately.
Great.
Simple yet efficient. One of the best vocab learning apps I’ve seen: really got me to remember the words. Edit: I love the recent changes, and I’d like to suggest introducing tags or hints (that the user sets up) that allows you to attribute a certain thought to a word that so that it’s easier to remember the link that you used as a way to connect to things you’ve already learnt 😊
Mastery is too Easy
I initially really enjoyed this app because I felt like I was genuinely learning new words. However, when I looked through the list of words I had supposedly “mastered,” I realized that I couldn’t recall the definitions of many of them. I think the synonym-matching system is a little too easy, especially because many of the other synonym options are words I’ve never encountered before. This makes it easy to choose the correct answer based on visual familiarity rather than actually knowing the word. As a result, I feel like my “mastery” of a word can sometimes be based on recognizing the answer rather than truly understanding it. Because of this, I think it would be helpful to add another step before a word can be considered “mastered.” What seems to work best for me is the sentence-completion game because it requires me to actually use the word in context, which I think is necessary to genuinely say that I know a word. I also have a suggestion for the sentence-completion game itself. I don’t find it as constructive to see a list of all the answers I got right or wrong at the end, because it doesn’t give me the opportunity to reinforce each word individually. I think that, regardless of whether you get an answer right or wrong, the next screen should show the definition of the word you were looking for as a refresher, similar to how the synonym game works. I also wouldn’t mind seeing the definitions of the other incorrect options, as that could help reinforce those words as well. If these changes were implemented, I would genuinely be a customer for life. Other than that, I highly enjoy the app and think it has a lot of potential.
Wouldn’t pay for it
For free sure I’d use it, but it’s not good enough to warrant a subscription price. Games are only ok…
Great practice
I use this app because I'm nerdy and like to test myself. I think it would be very helpful for people who have to take a test like the SAT.
Can’t cancel it
I want it canceled now
Would be better if we can add our own words
This is a very effective app for expanding your vocabulary, and I especially like the minigames which helps us to understand and memorize new words in an engaging way. However, it would be better if we can input customized words that have not been added in the app, or ones that have not been available for us to memorize yet. That way we can keep track of and remember new words we have spotted elsewhere, and thus expanding our vocabulary effectively.
“Free” Trial
Expensive app and locks in your card info for a free trial, renewing for over $50! Nope, not worth it.
Eh
I didn’t find that this app really added a lot of vocabulary words that I would want to use in daily life. Additionally words were pronounced by a really primitive AI model. Unbelievably, Some of the pronunciations were not correct.
Just what I needed
I needed help expanding my vocabulary , this really is helping me replace words with better sounding ones, to make my speech more polished .
Literal slop garbage.
If you do not subscribe to pay them, you’re bombarded with screens offering discount after discount and you can never get past them until you accept one. What a literal bunch of slop.
Good app
A really good app for learning new words and being able to practice them. The only thing I wish they would fix is the voice for the pronunciation. They aren’t very helpful as you can’t hear them , the words sound muffled and it’s more irritating than educating.
Underwhelming
It’s so boring even the practices and games.
Free trial is not real
I love this app, it is very helpful with growing the vocabulary. I do not like that I was charged $9.99 for a “free trial.” I will cancel subscription, but curious if they charge again after the “free trial” is over?
Fun!
Helped me improve my vocabulary & expand my mind.
Scam!
I was not told this was a subscription! I tried it, didn’t like it, and thought that was it!
Even better if…
I am thoroughly enjoying WordPal and it is indeed improving my vocabulary. I have however a couple of ideas which I feel would be of even greater benefit: 1) the added option to play games tailored to my bookmarked words and 2) games with, or means of viewing, categories of similar words e.g there seem to be quite a lot that refer to (public) shame or criticism, as there are for sadness too.
Underdeveloped
Why can I not just study the word I want to study, the word I bookmark, I know what I want to learn I don’t want to waste my time on word I’d never use.
You should know…
It kind of surprises you with how much you have to pay… you can only do the word learning part and everything else like the games and stuff you have to pay for:( Otherwise it’s so far been a good app with a good variety of words!
Love it!!!!!
Been using this the past few months, doing 100 words a night and the range of words available on this is stunning. would love featured on etymology, also would be cool to see or group words with similar definitions. Honestly I'd say worth the money because of the range and convenience
DO NOT SUPPORT!!!! BEWARE OF FREE TRIAL OFFERS
DO NOT OPT FOR ANY FREE TRIALS!!! This app offers a seven day free trial. When you cancel within the seven days they will immediately offer you another free trial and then charge you $59.99 for a yearly subscription and Apple Services will deny your refund requests and tell you that the app only offers one seven day free trial, despite the fact the app offered you two and then charged you immediately during the second acceptance of the offer. It’s FRAUD!!!
Something not quite right
It’s a nice enough app, but I am absolutely certain it has reset my streak when I did not actually miss a day.
needs payment
I’m sure this would be helpful if you want to pay but there are no games free and it constantly harasses you to start a free trial
Asks me for a review every minute
Would be great if you stop bothering me to write a review so often, especially since I’ve only used your app for 5 minutes. This is literally the 5th time I’m prompted for a review and it’s annoying. The app itself works great; would love to see more vocab added, and the ability to adjust difficulty levels.
Effective
This app is extraordinary! Not only do I learn the correct definitions, but copious games cement the words into my brain! Great fun!
Not Free
The app isn’t actually “free”. Once you’re in, you can’t actually use it until you put in a credit card.
Great app
Love the app during the trial but I’d love it to see there are much shorter words to start with and then build up. I have changed the difficulty level to 5% but still the words are too long especially in all of the games. I have undiagnosed ADHD at the moment and have been struggling in learning new words and remembering them. I would be so much happier to have 4 and 5 letter words to start with then build up from there - just like the TV day quiz programme of LINGO. So right now I feel a bit put off and getting bored quickly with frustrations, sorry to say. I hope you can add to this great app in the future updates.
Not great
Wish there was a “dont know” answer, as i end up associating the incorrectly guessed answers with the words. and i dont want to “skip” i want to know. Also it would be good to have the definition of both the question word and the answer word too. Finally; £6.99 a month? Shocking. Now that pretty much every company and service charges monthly, the unnecessary services, like games or apps like this should never be more than £1 a month imo.
Easy to Use!
Great way to learn and be on our phones instead of dome scrolling. It’s Fun!
Charges without notice
I downloaded this App because it looked interesting I got busy and never went into it. It auto charged me through Apple and my PayPal account.
Amazing 🤩
So my mom hooked me up with a this new app called active learn but it didn’t make a difference
Free version is good!
It’s helping me to remember words I’d forgotten & ensuring I’m not repeating words over & over in formal / professional communications.
Cost too much money
Cost too much money
Good
It’s good
Nice app
I love words so this app really help to improve my vocabulary and learn new words. I look forward to learning more new words.
Please disconnect me!
I’m sorry, I do not want your product
It’s OK
The app is very helpful and helps your vocabulary but if you get one wrong you can’t see the correct answer. Overall it is quite a good app.
