Easy to learn
I’m new to the app, but so far it’s fantastic and relatively easy to learn.
They cant make it work
While I enjoyed this app for a while it has had persistent problems with dropping my subscription. Today it not only dropped my subscription, but also deleted most of the sightings I had recorded with some trouble on the app over months. I have now reached the end of the road with this app
Good Guide
I like the guide and look forward to use it. However I miss a sorting function that sorts birds in taxonomic order (as used in nearly every other field guide). Alphabetical sorting per family is confusing and makes things hard to find.
Subscription issues
I have used BirdProSA for a few months and it is fantastic. But lately it looses my subscription time and again and it locks me out of functionality. I have to restart multiple times just to get the standard functionality.
Would like to be able to “save” list of bird from the Sound ID
One can save the audio from a Sound ID session. It would be very helpful to be able to save the bird list. Thank you
Amazing app
The best bird app available. Great ease-of-use, comprehensive information and some amazing features like image recognition and the managing trips and sightings. I love it!
“Mistake” or business model?
After years of including bird image recognition in the subscription, the developer now calls it a “mistake” and moves it behind an additional paywall. That looked like a retrospective price hike dressed up as an error. It gets worse: the app still advertises the additional bird recognition subscription at R89 in a pop-up , only to jump to R129 at checkout. That’s not just sloppy. It’s misleading. And greedy. What used to be a reasonably priced app is now effectively R249 + R129 per year. For the same core experience. Users deserve transparency, not revisionist explanations and bait-and-switch pricing. Until this is addressed honestly, I wouldn’t recommend subscribing.

The app keeps crashing when I try to add a sighting. Have tried several different birds and only worked with the first one.

Hi, my wife bought the app last year, we have family sharing on between us on iCloud. But t family sharing stopped working?

Very upset
I bought the app and have a valid paid subscription but suddenly can’t open the app anymore. It says that I have no subscription. So I probably lost all my recorded sightings… it’s the second time this happened…
Good
I have the demo version of the App. The smart search function using the bird call does not produce results relevant to the search details which I selected. Is that because I only have the demo version?
Not happy
I tried the demo and was happy, so upgraded today for the Kruger National Park and paid the fee, now the app will not open at all nor even for the demo
Mixed feelings
Great content, but frustratingly hard to use. Menus not intuitive and identify by traits not great Also, I want to cancel my subscription and even after 10 minutes searching, I can still not find where and how to cancel. Summary: great content and concept, but some way to go to make it truly useful
Big boost for novice bird watchers
I’m so pleased I purchased this app! Being able to narrow the search to birds occurring in your current area is super helpful. Photos and recordings of bird calls are excellent quality. The extended texts for each bird are interesting and enriching. It’s like having a comprehensive bird field guide in your pocket!
Price gouging
Have really been enjoying your app but a 45% increase on your bird ID function? Just nuts. I can copy paste a photo into AI apps like Grok and already get a pretty good estimation of the bird I'm looking at .... and the accuracy improvises in quantum leaps over time. Why alienate users who opted in to your app and supported you from the start? Dumb move.
Love it
Very nice app. Works perfectly. Smart search is a great help. Pictures are stunning. Information helpful. Simple to use. One issue I have, is that once you have ‘ticked’ a sighting you can’t edit it. I made a mistake between a greater and a lesser sunbird and can’t change my sighting. Humans are still not flawless and it would be nice if the app could become a little more lenient on our short comings. Well done Diane Erasmus👍🏼

Crash central
Just bought app. Every time I add a quick sighting the entire app crashes (IPhone 16pro 18.6.2). Not worth the frustration save your cash.
Good App
Enjoy the App and the clear pictures. One bug: Every time I want to play a call, it closes the App. Hope that can be fixed soon as I was particularly excited that the calls are separated by call type (normal, alarm, etc.) Update - after an iOS update, the issue is resolved, i.e. it does not happen anymore. All good - thanks
Love birds? You’ll love this app
So intuitive, detailed and beautifully presented. This app surpasses all the others, the photos are brilliant, information is pertinent and the egg size always amazes me. If you like birds, at whatever level you are you need no other. This one is amazing.

Uploading photos for a bird sighting crashes the App every single time. No response from the customer care contact mail.
Best birding app in SA
We’re a family of birders and are so excited to have found this app. It’s so informative. The multiple images and bird descriptions are accurate and very helpful when identifying birds. The image recognition feature is top class!

Great features, detail and it’s intuitive. Bird ID feature is great and so is the recent sightings feature. Great for a beginner.
Waste of money
This app is a complete waste of money for a newbie like me wanting to learn more about birds. There are some birds in my garden. I have no idea what kind of birds they are. All I know is that make the most beautiful sounds. So I was looking for an app that I can use to record the birds in order to identify them because it is virtually impossible to take a photo of a bird sitting in a tree 60 meters away in order to identify the bird. This app does not have such functionality
Still the best
Been using this app for about 4 years. Just continues to deliver. I’ve learnt so much about birds. The best thing about it is the sequential methods and algorithms to shortlist a sighting. It isn’t just a reference app, it’s an actual IDENTIFICATION app. Very rare.
Addition of Call recognition
