What people like
- Great for connecting with ward members
- Simple interface that is easy to use
- Helpful tools for tracking personal goals
What they complain about
- Notifications are unreliable and often late
- App has many annoying bugs
- Cannot react to messages with emojis
Please fix the bugs in circles!! It is so needed for ward communication.
I get notifications about updates in circles but the app doesn’t refresh in time to see the actual chat or event in the app, despite me closing, refreshing, updating, etc. Sometimes an activity or chat will only show up days or weeks after it was posted. Sadly, it’s just not reliable for ward communication needs.
Too many
I don’t need to download yet another app for church. Can’t we combine things. There’s tools, library, family search and now this one
Needs a new feature
This app is really great and super helpful, but there’s a feature I’ve been wanting for quite some time now. Is there a way to add reactions to messages? I don’t always want to reply to a message so being able to react to it would be fantastic
Circles need some work
Our ward uses circles for communication and it is very annoying with several bugs. Take some people from your tools team and have them work on this app.
Circles need to be more like messages
It would be helpful to have the messages NOT show ones from months ago when opening the app. It’s confusing and not helpful. We need the feature to “like” a message to know others have seen it. Please look at other group messaging things and pattern after them.
Please fun Friday
Please add back fun Friday
Frustrating at best
Between not updating automatically and not having a place to manually update information this app is garbage. It works and then it doesn’t and I keep having to uninstall/reinstall the app. For a church with so many resources they should put more of them into making this thing better
Needs the ability to delete old messages.
App needs the ability to delete old messages. Also, as presidency’s change. It would be nice to be able to remove old presidency & teachers from certain circles
WhatsApp works pretty well for ward communication
May members around the world find the functionality they need in WhatsApp. Do we need to be paying to develop a separate Circles app?
Please fix some things, Lots of potential & very helpful for the ward!😇👍
Very helpful and all on board trying to implement in our ward because of major benefits (easy to connect with applicable councils& organizations and to get connected, oriented & informed right away in ward. Plus the added perk that anyone that this can help with retention when moving to other wards if implemented there. Nice to have lots of church related communication all in same place) However, please improve to have ability to react to messages (to like/love/laugh/etc.) ~ an easy short-hand for engaging in the conversation without blowing up the messaging thread & helps as the sender to know if people saw announcements/invites/etc. for planning purposes. But especially pleeease fix the notifications lag/update issue. For some reason, even if I’ve clicked on and viewed a message, there’s a perpetual number indicator of 1-4 messages being in circles to be viewed. It’s very confusing and counterproductive cause it means I may ignore and miss an actual update because the notifications for messages coming in are continually outdated. Thank you for your time and consideration. Really hopeful to see future improvements 🤗
Simple
Simple to use, provides inspiring tools, and simplifies communication with all who choose to use the app
Circles Messages
Message notifications don’t show up in some areas and won’t clear after being viewed in others. Even after deleting and reinstalling, there is no improvement. Circles is unreliable and frustrating.
Getting there
Good content and direction. My major complaint is that the Circles notifications don’t turn off. I keep turning them off and I keep getting message alerts. I’m going to have to turn off notifications for the whole app.
Can’t Post In a Circle I am in
Thanks for fixing a bug, but now I can’t post in a parent chat and the leader can’t post either. I uninstalled and reinstalled the app but that didn’t fix my problem. I love the concept of the app. I guess it’s just having a “bad hair day”.
Simple to use, glitchy
I love that it is simple and easy to use. I dislike the issues it has. Sometimes, I will see and get notifications on my phone, but when open the app, I can see or find the comment that was made by someone. I have had to remove the app and redownload a few times. Again, I love the design and the set up, dislike that it’s got problems.
Adding individuals who are not members
How does one add individuals who don’t have a membership record?
App is good but faulty
The app design is good however there is an issue with notifications. You don’t receive notifications for the app and once you read the recent messages it never clears that there are “new messages” so it always looks like there are unread messages and in turn never notifies you when there are new messages. It’s extremely annoying.
Really great!
It’s like wholesome social media!Because almost everyone has social media everyone can pick up on the style and feel for the app quickly. An improvement I would like to see is to be able to “like” a comment in the circles section. You could use only positive emojis, (👍❤️😊etc.) but a way to interact beyond replying would be great. Other than that I love it, super useful!
Doesn’t seem to be tested well
I have an iPhone Pro 15 on the latest iOS, which should make me fall under standard test cases, but I doubt it because this app is consistently so buggy despite numerous updates. This makes it hard to convince the older generations in my ward to use circles to communicate. Some bugs I have right now: selecting that I don’t want notifications for a particular circle does nothing, clicking on a banner notification doesn’t dismiss the red bubble inside the app or on the icon on the home screen - I have to exit and re-enter the circle to do that and it doesn’t always work, and when I click to see the replies it pulls the replied to message to the top but then doesn’t display any replies.
Circles needs work
I love that we have this app, but the circles messaging feature is missing so many things. It gets super noisy and I know a lot of people just mute it entirely so they don’t get inundated with notifications. We really need a way to message on this app with more fine grained control over who sees the message. This app is so instrumental for communication within wards in North America, so please please improve it! Really I feel like this app has so much potential, but currently it is not useful because: - courteous technology users are hesitant to post anything because it creates noise for everyone else on the app - less technically savvy people don’t know messaging app manners and post all sorts of random stuff, creating noise for everyone else - people who are fed up with the noise turn off notifications altogether - leadership can’t get important communications out because everyone muted the app 😕 Some things I would love to see: - a way for wards to create their own smaller channels according to their interest groups and needs, with control over membership and who can post. We need an announcement channel that only presidencies can post on. It would also be great if we could create custom channels for things like activities, book clubs, etc. that people who are interested can join without causing noise to those who don’t want it. These need to have fine grained notification control so people can decide which channels they want to get notified about. - For heaven’s sake: PLEASE DO NOT SEND ME A NOTIFICATION FOR A THREAD I’M NOT PARTICIPATING IN! It defeats the whole point of threads. Only users who are watching a thread should get notifications for it. - Reactions! Please please please add reactions so that people can acknowledge that they saw a post without sending a message and cluttering up the whole channel!

Who did this
I click on notifications and it doesn’t take me to the message and I have to find it. Sometimes the message doesn’t show up till the next day. Having tools work so that when you need to communicate with a group through text seems like a much better idea than this half baked dumpster fire.
Glitching
I love the communication, I dislike that there are some circles that I cannot comment on that I am supposed to be able to. The parents portion of my children’s circles and my personal family circle, to be precise.
Circles Lacking
I love the Gospel Living app. I should say the idea of the app. The one thing I want to use it for (Circles) is hit and miss. It’s a bit buggy, doesn’t always send the messages correctly (sometimes it duplicates messages for no reason), and notifications don’t go away after messages are read unless you manually update the messages to read. I would love it if the circles app messaging system worked as well as some of the alternatives like GroupMe or Telegram.
Age range
Please make this 12+ not 13+. My daughter needs this app on her phone since she joined young women’s but even though I’ve changed parental controls, Apple won’t show this app on her phone because she’s 12. It doesn’t make sense to make the app for 13+ when 12 year olds need to use it.
Firm
This is a great app and you can watch videos and listen to music on it
Allow People to Delete Personal Information!
There is no way to delete your personal contact information. Even if you remove your information from the LDS Tools app. Where is the data pulled from?!
Lots of potential
Our ward has been switching over to this app. There are lots of cool features, like being able to add in activities and track goals. However, I would love to see some bugs fixed mainly in circles. -when you type a message in circles if someone else in the group send a message at the same time it ends up erasing the message you are typing. -sometimes messages don’t show up and there is a lag in the notification and when you are able to read the message. - I would love to be able to move group chats so the most prevalent ones are at the top. -it would also be nice to be able to react to message such as “loving, liking, questioning, etc” similar to how iPhone has it. I hope someone from the development teams checks these reviews to help the app run smoother. There is a lot of potential for this app and I think it would be better utilized if these bugs were fixed. Thanks!
Effectiveness
Sorry but we just aren’t receiving updates in a timely way to use it for young mens. Please improve it. It seems a leader should be able to send a message and the group should receive it immediately.
Circles
Viewing my child’s deacon quorum circle it doesn’t give me the option to comment all the time, so I have to reply to what someone else said to get information. It would also be nice to have an “emoji” or “thumbs up” or “heart reaction” to what other people say.
Great App, but links don't work.
Gospel Living is used extensively in my Ward and Stake. Unfortunately, every Fast Sunday the Clerk posts Zoom Links. Recently, those have not been "clickable". They are just plain text. The text can be copied and pasted, but otherwise are not interactive. Android version doesn't seem to have this issue.
Needs Work…
Still at work in progess. Notifications are still very buggy and not reliable. Also, I noticed that when you type a long message in the app, it will not display the entire message. Users have to tap the message to display the full text, but there is no indication that the text continues or that tapping on the message will display more text. You can’t assume that people will automatically understand how to reveal the rest of the message.
I love this app!!
I love this app, even though it's a little buggy. Hopefully, it'll get better over time.
I want to like this app
The app has so much potential and has slowly improved over time, but like all the other church apps it is buggy and has a lot of problems. It struggles to automatically update and that makes the notifications hit and miss. Sometimes a message gets repeated several times. We rely on this app to get announcements out to our church youth and adults in our local area, so is it too much to ask for to have additional IT resources dedicated to fixing these issues? I’m sure those working on it are doing their best, but they need more help to keep up.
Bug
Hello 👋. My 3 star rating comes from the fact that I get notifications for the adults thread in my ward, however I cannot view it in the app. The deep link just takes me to the Home Screen. Could be a problem with my permissions, perhaps due to the fact that our ward split a couple months ago and caused some strangeness in lds tools as well. Seems like the mobile backend still recognizes me as my old ward even though my records have been moved. Could be an issue cause by caching if you have local data persistence. My account is for Alex Peterson, Independence 3rd ward. Hope this helps. Also, fyi, I’m a mobile app developer who would be willing to look into it / work for the church if given the opportunity.
Excellent way to Connect
I have been using this app for a while. Works great with iPhone. I use “Circles” to connect with those who I serve. As soon as a message comes I get notification on my phone and Apple Watch. Best way to focus on the Lord’s work with out noise of the World!
Circles is REALLY Frustrating
I have to believe the church’s IT department could do better than this. Notifications appear weeks and months after posts are made. Some posts can be seen by some, but can’t be seen by others who should be able to at least view, if not respond. Clicking on push notifications sometimes takes users to the relevant post or comment, but more often it doesn’t work. Circles does not work well, consistently, for anyone I know.
Add YM/YW Leader Circles, Please!
Our ward is making a push to use this exclusively for all communication, and it works fairly well. Biggest ask right now: there’s no circle for YW and YM adult leadership. It would be very helpful to have those circles, please!
Good idea but terribly slow!
I love the the idea of being able to use this app for messaging within the church, but the notification system isn’t great and the loading time for anything in the app is terrible! When messenger and what’s app are almost loading messages instantaneously, it’s hard to move away from those resources and onto the living app. Also there needs to be the ability to create new chat groups within the ward.
A great resource! Has some major glitches that make it hard to use
We love using circles and the activities tab in our youth program. It is such an easy way to communicate to everyone! However, the app is seriously glitchy… and we have a lot of parents and kids who refuse to use it now because it’s too unpredictable and annoying. It has great potential! Just fix those bugs, please! 🙏🏼
2021 Attempt
Trying to get all the youth on the app for 2021, after the response in 2020 was lukewarm - however so many great updates have happened since then. It would be great to be able to message parents of youth, have youth directly message their leaders (my youth leaders circle perhaps), edit messages, and for the calendar notification to go away after checking Thank you for continuing to update this app - it is a great potential tool to connect to the ward and the levels of transparency are great when interacting with the youth!
Goals Broken for Months
Keep contacting support to indicate goals are broken and get no response. Goals used to show the calendar if you missed marking a day. They don’t now. The workflow is hard and duplicative when you set up reminders. Please rework this area. So much potential.
App seems cool trying to report a bug
I recently enabled circles and my elders quorum sends a lot of messages. I tried to disable notifications and it works when I’m in the app, but when I close and reopen the app and recheck circles, the notifications are turned back on. Sorry if it’s user error.
Circles
The circles app would be a lot better and more user-friendly if you could see what you’re actually typing for more than a few words at a time in the text box.
Notifications
I know the last update says it fixed notifications, but actually it seems to have broken and made worse the notifications for most people in our ward using it. I wish there was some way to offer feedback other than reviews in the App Store.
It’s amazing
I love this app so much. I would like it if you could individually message people though through circles. Other than that though it is perfection.👌
Not user friendly
This is one of the worst apps I’ve tried to use. It’s complicated and when it tells you there’s a notification it’s nearly impossible to find that notification in the app. We have a large family so the number of circles is way too many for the app to not take you directly to the notification when you click on it.
Amazing app! But glitchy…
This app is so helpful with goals and with everything. However, it is very buggy. If you are on the discover page and you click something, then when you exit the feed will shake and move you from where you were on the page before. Other than that, this is an amazing app.
Review
I can’t see my circles on IPAD or settings
Getting Close to Great
For a long time our ward tried to use this app but no one got notifications. So unless you opened the app you didn’t know you had a message (iOS for iPhone8). But recently we noticed this feature is working. The red number, notification center, and a sound goes. This is GREAT!! However, on the iOS for iPhone 8 the sound is so quiet the Bishopric doesn’t hear them. There is no way to change the sound. Can this be improved? Please?
