Grateful
I’m grateful to have found TaxBird. The app is easy to navigate and helps keep you in compliance tracking your days. An attorney referred me to TaxBird saying, “I think it’s the best and easiest app to use for keeping track of your days”. I’d say, he is right. I’ve also reached out to customer service with a question. Excellent customer service and a quick response. Highly recommend!
Good idea poor execution
I guess, I tried. I am traveling for job, but always when I travel the app get confused and I need to adjust or confirm the location. When I stay at certain location for few days, I still need to open the app almost daily and add the location manually. At this point it’s just useless. The sane way I can add the record to my calendar, if I need to do the manual adjustments almost daily. It is not worth the effort or the money.
The fix worked!
The app stopped regularly updating locations a few months ago. I was manually updating location a few times a week. The developer reached out and suggested I delete and reinstall it a couple of weeks ago. It’s working great now. Didn’t loose any data on the reinstall either.
Buggy
I'd love to use this app. But when I went to enter days from earlier in the year, in some cases, it just spins around. If you go to edit the number of days you had put in and change the location, it just says you already have days saved in this location. If it would function properly, then I'd love it. As it is, all I did is waste at least a half hour of my time so thanks for nothing. Try selling the app when it doesn't have any bugs in it and then maybe I'll be happy to subscribe.
Nice when it works
Unfortunately, this app is too unreliable. It seems to totally die once in a while, forcing you to uninstall and reinstall it. Killing the app does nothing.

Works great to track my travels! App consistently works well, no issues and happy customer for multiple years.
Buggy UI
I consistently have problems with managing my days and proper tracking. I was hopeful it would work as expected
Almost Perfect
With homes in 3 states it’s critical to track where we are and where we are not to avoid tax issues. This app does that very well. The one area of improvement would be to increase the reliability of recognizing the location each day. There are some days when it just does not register. If that can be improved - 5 stars.
Very crash prone
I’ve been using this app for one and a half years on a iPhone 16 Max .This is probably the worst piece of software I have used in my 40 years of using computer computers. It constantly crashes, for example if the user selects an overseas destination, say Switzerland, it displays Denmark. If the users select Germany, the app crashes. Repeatedly. We plan to discontinue this app as soon as 2025 is over. Buyer beware !
App freezes ~80% of the time
It works sure but it freezes more than 80% of the time, often requiring a force close and reopen. I’m running the latest iOS on the newest iPhone and still have this issue.
Excellent Day Tracker
This is a great day tracker that perfectly met my needs.
Looses data, doesn’t track location

Great Potential
I’ve been using this now for almost a year. I’m having issues with it not tracking some of my locations when I’m traveling and this is critical for my tax situation. I have had to manually add my home country 3 times this year and now I logged in to be sure today is counted before I fly out out this afternoon only to see my location as “United States” 🤯🤯🤯 I need Puerto Rico logged for today not just “United States”. I can go back and do it manually but that is defeating the point of the app 🤦♀️ Is anyone else having this issue ????
Location tracking painful
Constantly NOT receiving location and in need to be opened and even when you do that it still doesn’t get your location. Painful.
So-So. Missed days
App is not worth it if it misses days. I’ve had to go back and manually add days to different states. This will not look good from an audit perspective. Accuracy is critical. I will not renew if this continues to happen.
Best App if Moving States
Best app ever if moving states. We’ve been using for years and our accountant love that we can prove where we spend our time. Everyone should use!
Buggy, Poorly Maintained
A buggy and unreliable app. Super disappointing. Every time there’s an OS update it stops working well. Location tracking is the worst. Not worth the money.
Accurate Tracking
The app tracks your phone accurately worldwide.
Horrible on iPhone 16 Pro
I have used the app for the past two years on my old iPhone and it worked great it always updated my location daily. Since upgrading to iPhone 16 Pro, I have to log in almost every other day to record a missing day.
Great for tracking
This a great app that makes tracking easy as well as making a concise year end report.
Not worth it
Doesn’t allow you to edit mistakes . Good idea for an app but due to the above mentioned factor it’s not useful as we humans always make mistakes. If you do one you have to manually charge the year altogether not the dates. You cannot scroll dates on the left of calendar. Thus if you’re in one place on the 20th of a given month you are not allowed to include that you are in the next place on te 21st. Don’t buy it. Will drive you nuts.
Does the Job!
Works as advertised for tracking and reporting on your state location for tax purposes. I’ve tried a couple of the other location tracking apps and TaxBird seems to be the most reliable. As others have noted, the UI for planning is a bit psinfull

Great for documenting residency
I have used TaxBird for years to track and document our days spent in the states where we have houses. Mostly intuitive , generally easy to use. Well worth the modest annual cost.

It barely tracks automatically now
When I first started using it, in August 2023, until mid October 2024, it failed to get my location 3 times. Since then, it fails roughly every other day. If I need to open it every day, I might as well just keep a log in a spreadsheet.
Great residency tracker for taxes
I was looking for a simple tool to track the number of days I spend in my state of residence. It does that masterfully! Simple to use, I don’t even think about it yet on any given day of the year it will tell me how many days I’ve spent in each state. It also keeps track of the actual calendar days so I could retrace my whereabouts on any day of the year. Great resource!
Beyond useless
I got it because I have a new job in NY but don’t live there and need records for the inevitable audit. Over three weeks, the app has tracked where I am EXCEPT when I am in NY when it misses about half of the days and I have to add manually. There is no way to force a check in - it missed the last two days which I entered manually and this morning and then it missed today but after I left the state on the train. I will be requesting my money back as the app is truly terrible.
App freezes constantly
App is great but freezes almost immediately upon opening which makes it frustrating to use.
Does The Job
I’ve been a subscriber for almost five years. There was a period about one to two years ago following an iOS update that made the app very glitchy and required daily monitoring to make sure locations were being properly recorded. Since that issue was addressed the app works seamlessly in the background and does exactly what it’s supposed to do. Just set it and forget it. The effortless record keeping is a pleasure.
Stopped working and support didn’t respond to inquiries
I used it all year. Then it stopped working. No response to multiple support emails. There is no value to the app unless it works all year long
App is crashing
The current version is crashing. I got an alert that I had a missing location and tapped on the location and typed the location “Singapore”, once I select the location the app crashes. This is new hasn’t happened in the past.
Tax Bird app
I have recommend this app to probably a 100 people over the years I have been using the app. It is a must have for anyone claiming residence in a state that does not have state taxes and also have another home in a state that has state taxes.
Puerto Rico tacking fail
I purchased TaxBird to track my days in PR. In my trial period the app was able to track my days so I went ahead and purchased the app and then it never worked again. For some reason it I did not show up as subscribed. I emailed the support group and answered their questions and followed through on their suggestions but after about 4 or 5 emails - they said they couldn’t help me nor would they be able to refund my money. They told me to try and get the refund through the App Store. The app is a beta project at best and they never made any effort to refund my money. If you’re looking for an app to track days - this is not the one.
Not reliable
I keep the location settings on always allow and it is still hit or miss. Seems every other day I get an alert that location setting was not tracked. I then have to enter it manually. It’s really frustrating to have to pay so much attention to this app.
Try It For Yourself
We travel frequently between Texas and New York and this app automates tracking those travels for tax purposes. I was initially concerned by some of the negative reviews about TaxBird but decided to downloaded the app anyway (there is a free trial period before a subscription is required) and it has worked exactly as described. The typical battery consumption is less than 1% according to my iPhone and the cost of a TaxBird subscription is very reasonable as compared to others which provide similar functionality.
Tracker doesn’t track
This app is supposed to track your location daily in the background. However, nearly every day I get an error message - “No Location Received”. What’s the point of paying for an app that supposed to work in the background but you end up manually inputting your location nearly every day. This app is a complete waste of money.
Not great
I have to keep the app open in the background and still, every day or every other day I get alert notices that it can’t detect me. I have to tap in the alert or check in on the app every day. It’s supposed to keep track of me and I feel like I have to keep track of it to make sure it’s doing the job I paid it to do. Very frustrating. Also uses a lot of battery because it has to be kept open.
