A must if you have OTA TV
If you are in the OTA tv space, this app is the missing piece of your setup. Works seamlessly and the developers are constantly updating it.
Do you like your videos to look like garbage? Channels is for you!
Video replay via Channels is full of jitter, audio/ video out of sync and yet they still take your money? I’d reconsider.
Choppy audio fixed by ‘Experimental’
Hi there. Recently found that Channels on iOS was misbehaving quite a bit. I thought it was the HomeRunHD box needing an update, but still getting very crusty audio coming though. The strange thing is that the Apple TV version works flawlessly. Update: In the app’s advanced settings, changed the audio driver to ‘Experimental’ - seems to have fixed the issue.
Latest update is buggy
Programme descriptions now go straight off the side of the screen on Apple TV instead of wrapping. They were arbitrarily truncated before but this is much worse. List scrolling doesn’t work sometimes, seems to depend on the content of the EPG. Additionally long standing bugs like it’s impossible to select channels if there’s nothing in the EPG - which does happen from time to time. And if you press the controls too fast sometimes it switches channel without prompting you if you’re behind the schedule, losing your time-shift recording, which is a very annoying one!
Volume Slider for iPhone
With a recent iPhone upgrade & update, my iPhone volume slider that used to appear on the screen has disappeared! It’s quite an inconvenience to adjust the volume using the phone controls on the side of the iPhone vs the screen itself; I have to turn the phone sideways to adjust the volume. I can still adjust the volume on my iPad screen by using the slider. Please fix this feature with your next update.
Great App
Really solid simple app. All i can recommend is adding a dark mode theme for the phone and apple tv app would be so cool especially when watching at night. Anyways thanks for the great app!
Multiview Option Missing
Multiview is missing on all my Apple TV and iPad
Great. But needs “Picture in Picture” floating video
Lovely interface, works great. But why not have the ability to use the floating video when multitasking and switching to another app?
Away from home home not reliable
I’ve tried connecting the traditional way and I’ve tried Tailscale. It connects to the server and shows the tv guide and recordings but eventually I get “tuner unreachable” errors. Not sure it’s worth the $80 annual cost because of this. It defeats the benefit of using an expensive server.
Audio on iOS 17
Ever since iOS 17 was released, 99% of the time, audio is unlistenable because it clips and cuts in/out. How has this not been fixed?
Amazing app!
This app is so clean and well designed. I absolutely love the hidden channel surfing feature! It’s fast and really a reminder of how channel surfing old school tv. Also love the 2 hour recording/rewind. This app paired with an HDHomeRun is an absolute must for your Apple TV box!
Unusable since last update
Used to be a great app. Since the new update, all my streams buffer and get pixelated on iOS. This happens despite my TV app doing just fine. Terrible.
Stability issues recently. Usually excellent.
I’ve had this app for years, but I’ve docked a star since it’s recently become pretty crashy. Also getting ‘tuner unavailable’ messages being superimposed over otherwise fine channels. Please fix the stability issues to make this a 5 star app again.
Lack of PIP for IOS 15

Works Flawlessly
Installed on iPhone 16 and Apple TV 4K devices. Clean, easy to use interface. Designed for use with HDHomeRun products from Silicondust. This version of the app allows you to watch broadcast TV anywhere you have a WiFi signal in your home. There’s another Channels app (DVR) that allows you to record shows and view TV anywhere, not just your home. But it requires additional hardware (computer server). I have the Flex 4K tuner, which is capable of receiving the newest generation ATSC 3.0 broadcasts. But most of the local TV stations are encrypting their signals with DRM, except for the local PBS station. Not sure WHO needs to do WHAT to start watching the shows on the DRM encrypted ATSC 3.0 channels. Not currently an issue for me. The SD and HD channels look great. And I’ve read no TV stations in the Boston area are actually transmitting shows in 4K quality on the ATSC channels. They are sending SD or HD quality programs. Which makes sense, as there aren’t many shows that were created at 4K quality.
Doesn’t Work
I wasted my money paying for the Apple TV app. The latest update (September 2024) made it useless. It will play a channel but it would just stop after a couple of minutes and goes back to the guide. I even tried resetting the Apple TV to restore free storage space but didn’t fix it. I want a refund.
Excellent App
Requires Australian TV support for DVR functionality. Looking forward to this being implemented.
Despointed
15€ and not even able to record the channels with the hdhomerun!!!!! And 25€ more to have it on your apple tv !!!!! Are you serious ???? Just ridiculous
Fantastic app
I don’t know what is going but development on the AppleTV app seems to have stopped. For more than a year now going to the channel guide with the picture window on results in the Guide going to the lowest channel number rather than the channel you’re viewing. It’s maddening. The FireTV app works better.

Won’t launch
v6 won’t even launch on my iPhone or iPad.
Channels misnamed but can’t choose a channel
Love the way you can bypass commercials. However, why this app is named Channels is beyond me. You don’t have the option to surf channel numbers thru the guide to select only one series on that channel alone. Instead, it selects every channel a series airs even though it’s duplicating the show on HD as well as lower channels. Then, there’s other channels that airs repeat episodes, like USA, for example and labels them as first run because it is running for the first time on their channel, but they’re repeat episodes. If I could delete all programs on that channel that are being recorded that would be an option, or choose to record a series only on that channel is another option.
Sound dropping on latest version
Please fix the 2 current issues - sound dropping regularly on latest version and requires to go back to guide and re-select a channel - sound keeps playing for up to 10s when you exit the app on an Apple TV setup to output sound on HomePods…

Was worth 5 starts but….
This app was worth 5 stars, but for some reason all my channels stopped working because of - well, I don’t know. Channels were lost and it too major programming to get it started and I did not have the time nor patience. I feel after I pay, I should be able to watch. The help forums have a lot of information but getting this to work requires major programming. Too much for me, so I cancelled my membership.
Great app. Perfect if add Picture in Picture!
This app is stable and great! Just wish I could bring it into a small video window like over video apps and keep using my phone. That would be 5 stars!
Lacks Australian DVR Support
I’m not really sure why this is proving so hard when other providers seem to offer it. Early on there were excuses of poor artwork availability, but that’s not a good reason. Given all the focus of the last year or two has been on DVR based features, this is becoming a real issue.
Amazing front end for HDHomerun
Tremendous app, utilizes the HDHomerun more efficiently by allowing multiple users to watch the same channel while only using 1 tuner. Better video quality than the regular HDhomerun app, and the amazing PNP that allows for background audio while locked, a feature so good I bought another HDHomerun for my workplace.
Don’t upgrade to v5.8.0 - has a severe bug
After upgrading to v5.8.0 all channels receive connection lost and won’t play any live tv on the hdhomerun. I wish the developers would extensively tested new software before releasing it especially after I paid for the software

Slowly deteriorating in quality
I used to love this app but of late especially on Apple TV 4K it’s started to become very buggy. I wouldn’t mind so much was I not paying them a subscription to watch freeview channels! This year I definitely won’t be renewing my subscription and channels will no longer have my custom. A one off payment for this type of service would be better or even offering that to loyal customers, but paying for an app that is deteriorating in quality just doesn’t sit right for me.
Best DVR
Great live tv and DVR. Easy to use. Excellent for pulling many video sources together in one, easy too use package. Also like that videos can be downloaded to your device for travel, all inside one app.
Problems with IPhone 15 Pro Max & iOS 17.0.2
Have been a very happy user of Channels for many years, and unfortunately, there is a problem that has popped up with my new phone and the latest OS. There is significant audio clipping occurring when playing either locally on the phone, or when streamed to Bluetooth device. Hopefully this is easily remedied with an update to the app. :-)
App is great but could be better
1. Allow for downloads of episodes. 2. Allow for background playback - pip is close to that but not it. 2a allow for audio playback. Some shows I only just want to listen to them, not watch.
EPG navigation needs improving
Despite some useful and interesting updates, still no improvement in navigating EPG on AppleTV . How difficult can it be to create a “now” button, or a configurable “home” button, or what about plus and minus 24 hours? Apart from these the App is fantastic for what I need and use it all day everyday on iPad iPhone AppleTV !
Works great on VisionPro !
App was just updated for the VisionPro. It is an iPad compatibility app, but broadcast TV is 2D anyways. It would be cool to have a native app that can watch multiple channels simultaneously :)
Recent issue.
Channels for HDHomerun no longer works on my iPhone XR with most current iPhone update. I’m not allowing updates to the program on any of my other Apple devices as they work fine.
Needs better reception diagnostics
Need better diagnostics to understand if there has been a failure in a powered antenna.

Can’t find channel 902
I can log directly in to my quatro with chrome and see 902 on the quatro channel list, but repeated scans with channels do not see it. And yes, my cable box tunes 902 just fine.

It works perfect with our local free to air channels but when I updated my Apple TV to the new 4K, I lost the ability to go to Freeview Brisbane! A real shame but I hope this will be updated!
