Helpful and Fun

The app makes the vocab fun and it really helps you learn the words.

Needs work

The technology seems to work okay but it presents you with a stack of at least 50 or so flash cards and works you through them. This is way too much. But needs to let you create a stack of a few and then slowly add to it. The picture aspect is nice but presenting me with such a large stack was way to scary.

Misleading a bit

If you select to learn vocabulary, in one selection is days 97 words. However, when learning with the flashcard method, you need to take into consideration “repetition”. I can’t go through 97 words once, then do it over and over again to learn. I need to do 10 words in that group of nouns, to learn repetitively, then move on to another block of 10 words in the same group of nouns. There is no option to go back or to choose blocks of 5 or 10 words. There is no option to scroll backwards as well. Please explain if there is a way to do this in the app. Looking online at the website I am confronted with a few apps offering several things. I was under the impression that this app would have flash cards, as it’s in the graphic with the name, but I am unable to see any reference to flash cards. Looking at the other apps that this company offers, I see there seems to be an app dedicated to flash cards, unless I’m mistaken. When looking at products to buy, it would be ideal if they would describe one, two, or three types of apps they are selling to allow the buyer to choose the appropriate app for the specific need. This is still a good app, but I feel somehow “miss-directed” into choosing which app to purchase. I am still confused so I will look at the website to see what other apps are needed. Considering the price paid, I would assume this should be a premium app with all the features advertised for £8.99…not only some features such as vocabulary. If I am mistaken please reach out and I’ll happily change my review to reflect what is actually being sold on this app.

No sound?

I am excited to learn Koine Greek and thought this would be a wonderful way for me to practice vocabulary but I need the word pronounced for me and there’s no sound. I’m reinstalling the app. Hopefully that will work. Thanks!

Seems useful

I could see this being useful, assuming all the pronunciations are correct. However, I’m a little disappointed that I can’t copy the word. I like to post it into ChatGPT to get a breakdown. Yeah, this is kind of a deal breaker for rapid learning. If you can’t even look up the word easily, how are you supposed to learn quickly? Another problem is I can’t really tell if my iPad and my iPhone version are syncing their data in anyway.

Love this app

I absolutely love this app. I have been casually learning Greek for the last few years and I'm now at the point where I can read the gospels and understand them. But now I have a request/suggestion. The learn by textbook addition is very valuable. It would be great if you could add other vocabulary lists based off of other books that are popular to read for people learning Greek. Starting with Xenophon's Anabasis and going through Plato, Herodotus, Thucydides, and even Homer. These would be great as in app purchases and would be totally worth paying for. These vocab lists are already available online so it shouldn't be that hard to add them. I know this app is more aimed at New Testament Greek, but this would really help people like myself who are starting with Koine and plan to work their way back to Attic and eventually Homeric Greek. Thanks again!

Hmm?

So as it turns out, this app literally does no-thing. By that I mean a picture opens and that is it, three offset in the upper left hand corner buttons, no cards, no testing, no thing. Zero, zilch, nada. Never bought a picture sold as an app for $6.00 before. Update: the problem is that the start button is hidden and needs to be scrolled to. This would be ok except that only about 40% of the screen real estate is being used so scrolling to a hidden button should be unnecessary, and there is of course no intuitive need to try and scroll for the very same reason. Clearly if there was more to see, it would be visible in all that white space. Nice idea, poor execution of the viewport.

It could do with a Picture to Greek mode.

I would give this app 5 stars if it had a mode where the first thing shown in learning mode was the picture, with the Greek text hidden, to which the reader would have to recite the Greek word before uncovering it, then uncovering the lexical meaning if needed. A picture-to-Greek word association is a far more powerful method for learning. I found that if I covered up the Greek word manually and then tried to recite the word that the picture was associated with, it was much harder. The picture just provides cognative clues to what English readers know is the lexical meaning, when our brains should be wiring the picture to the Greek λέξις. All the basic elements are available should the developer decide it's a change worth pursuing; it just needs some coding work.

Best Koine Greek App On The Market

The only thing missing is a vocabulary by book of the bible, if I wanted to focus on the gospel of John for instance. ButI love the inclusion of all the Greek textbooks. Such a helpful and clean UI.

Good Mnemonics

By looking only at the pictures I am connecting the Greek words directly to a concept without having to translate them to or from English. Testing my vocabulary with other flashcard apps require me first to read an English word, then think what it refers to, then think of the related Greek word. The pictures are more direct and make memorisation more vivid for me. The only improvement I would like would be for the app to remember which words I find difficult so that I could select cards based on difficulty, not just frequency and word type.

Great app needs some fix

I love this app and I was put together it really makes learning very simple. The only downside is there are some bugs in the app where all the answers on tests don’t show up so you’re not able to choose it that needs repair.

Great app, only minor suggestions

Love the app, recommend it to anybody wanting to learn Koine Greek - a great place to start. To the developer: would you consider adding a proper noun section? The name of Jesus, the names of the disciples, cities and so forth. It’s rather odd learning all these words and then having to read the Greek NT to first be exposed to the name of Jesus in Greek! A second suggestion would be to include a way to see what the correct answer was for words you get wrong in the “test” section, as currently I cannot see any way to do this. We’re told which answer is wrong, but not the correct answer. Either way, a truly great app for beginners with only minor issues present.

★★★★☆ Australia · v1.3 · 1 May 2021

Great format, not enough words

The format of the app is simple and effective, allowing the user to practice and test their memory of nouns, verbs, adjectvi, etc, in their differing biblical frequencies. The illustrations are cute and make it much easier to memorise the meaning of words rather than just the word and its English equivalent. The audio for pronunciation is great. As a Koine student, this app is an excellent help. What stopped me from giving a five star review is the total number of words this app has, only about 1000. Some other Koine apps have several thousand for a cheaper price (tho not as good a structure as this one). It would be nice to see some updates or options for expanded word packs to rival the amount of words from other apps. As this developer provides illustrations as well as categorising the words as nouns, verbs, etc, (all good Koine apps provide audio) they could justify a higher price point for word packs. It would also be nice to see them in noun declensions and verb conjugations. If they added more words down to a frequency of 2, and added in sections for practicing noun declension and verb conjugation, then this would be far the best Koine app in the store, even with its higher price point. With these additions, I would feel good about recommending this app to teachers and students alike. As it stands however, it’s a good app that has some advantages over the competition but is pretty pricey compared with alternatives.

Extremely Useful

This is the best Greek app I have used for learning vocabulary. Not only is this app great, but the online Greek course that is offered in conjunction with this is the best I have ever taken. I have paid thousands of dollars for Greek classes at seminary, but this class was by far the best, and a fraction of the cost. I was able to have a good working knowledge of Koine Greek, in three months, which allowed me to read the book of 1 John with minimal assistance. I can’t recommend this enough!

Great app for learning and reviewing vocab

This is a great app for learning and reviewing vocab. If there I have any initial feedback, I would like to see unique pictures for the vocabulary that don’t currently have any. The same picture with the guy having the three question marks above his head for hundreds of words is not helpful. Having unique pictures for the rest of the vocabulary would definitely put this app at five stars. Also, it would be great if there was an option to learn a group of words based the frequency of use, regardless of the part of speech. For example, learn most frequently used words 1-20, then 21-40, and so on, regardless of the part of speech.
