What I’ve been looking for!
Great recipes, easy to follow.
What happened to the recipe pictures
Pics removed for some reason
It’s Ok
The app is OK but seems expensive for what I can get just as easily off the website. There are some errors and confusion, e.g. beef rendang overview mentions , kerisik, as rice powder but seems to be coconut powder further on. It’s useful and the recipes are good but for the price I was expecting something more.
Love / Hate relationship with this app
This is the best curry recipe app BY FAR. The recipes are authentic, easy to follow and absolutely delicious. The one time access fee is great value once you realise the quantity of recipes and how unique they are. So why only 2 stars? Because the app takes at least 10 minutes to download its content every single time it is opened. I have an iPhone 17 with updated software, I’ve deleted and re-downloaded the app, it makes no difference. While it’s downloading you have to keep the app open and the screen unlocked, or it starts again. It’s INFURIATING. This means I’m super reluctant to plan recipes from the app because the thought of waiting for it to open is so irritating and really unfortunate. So - 5 stars for app content, but 0 stars for app performance.
Good recipes, bad app
The recipes are great, they look nice. Every time I open the app it spends 40 minutes downloading images. It doesn’t cache them (as far as I can tell), it doesn’t continue in the background so I have to keep the app open and my screen unlocked, and it doesn’t start from the same place if there is a network error- it starts again. Immediately uninstalling and will try and get a refund on the subscription.
App is easy to follow
App is easy to follow, with great authentic recipes that are so tasty!
Recipes have disappeared!
Having used the app previously- went to look for some inspiration…only to discover there are no recipes! Where have they gone?
Great recipes, slow app
The curry Guy is great. Love his diversity in recipes. The only note I have is the slow app. The loading of images sometime take minutes. Apart from that, great stuff!
More free recipes
It’s annoying to download the app and not many free recipes 🤣
Doesn’t cache photos
I understand the photos are helpful, and the recipes are great. But Stuart, PLEASE implement a local cache for this app so that it doesn’t have to download the entire gallery every time I open the app. It’s not just the initial open, it downloads images EVERY time I open the app, and has done for the last year or so. It really takes stars away from an otherwise amazing tool
For curry fans
Great app , all the recipes are well thought out and well written You can spend hours just reading them Or crack open a beer and make one I made the Chinese chicken curry as it’s my favourite curry thinking it would never be as good as the takeaway - it was way better I have all the books but this app is a shelf saver
Hope you’re not hungry!
Images downloading… that’s all I can see.. I haven’t even been able to see any recipes yet, in the paying version of this app.. luckily I’d only subscribed for 1 month, for £1.99, I won’t be subscribing again; that’s for sure 😂
Great app but need yo be updated
Urgent updates are in need before purchasing the app as a lot of recipes are not to be found that i like. Many of the popular items and more typical recipes are found. Such as chicken korma but no saag balti dishes. It tastes great but would greatly appreciate if a recommended place to get the spices as some are not easily sourced as some items are very specific for the dish and sometimes make it bland. I found that making chicken tikka masala the method needs revising as i found spelling mistakes and missed ingredients in the method. But i do recommend the app to an amateur cook like me.
Looks promising but very slow
The app looks promising with a multitude of interesting and useful recipes however is sooooooo slow that it makes it unusable. Don’t waste your money as you can Google recipes much faster.
Good recipes slow app
The recipes are good but be prepared to wait 10-15 minutes to load recipes, images etc every time you open it unless it’s only been a few days.
Brilliant
Fantastic app with absolutely delicious recipes that are easy to follow.
Cheeky
I paid for this app around 15 years ago. Now I must pay a subscription to view recipes. The Curry Guy? The Greedy Guy
Comprehensive Indian Curry App.
This is a great app in as much that the instructions and pictures are really useful for the novice chef - as are, the loads of recipes that are on offer . It would be nice however if your app could be used in 'landscape' instead of 'portrait'. An iPad needs to be used in 'landcape' - because it is so awkward without this option - esp. when cooking ! ( does anyone use their iPad in 'portrait' - no never ! ) please see to it......!!!!
Not very good
I love The Curry Guy website and I own several of his books. However I was really disappointed by the app. Hard to read and no landscape support on iPad which makes it even harder to use. I also don’t like the pricing structure for all the recipes, I’d rather go elsewhere and get them for free or make my own.
Great recipes….but
Why is this app so so so so so slow at loading images when you first start the app? Where are you hosting those, the moon?
Yum yum
Loving your recipes ! I was studying Indian restaurant recipes for a couple of months, that’s when I found you. Got your bible now and it’s great. I always play with recipes which is the wonder of Indian cookery 😊 I’ll let you know if I discover something new. I love to blend and experiment 🧐 Your recipes are so easy to follow, and cooking the food is so gratifying. My kids love the food! Even the spicy ones 👍
Rubbish 😡
When you read the app description, it implies that there are recipes for free - unfortunately this is not the case, you can’t see anything unless you pay 😡😡. The app has been deleted now
Recipes on app
I’ve just downloaded this app thinking the recipes were free but appears you need to purchase the recipes which I’m not doing. Disappointing considering I can find some from the curry guy on google for free
Needs Updates
It takes minutes to open the app each time. The pictures look good, but I can’t wait for everything to load every time I open the app
Updated but would like….
I’ve had this app now for many many years now and it’s great to see the recipes getting updated. I’d love to see a possible function within the app so recipes could be selected as favourites. Keep those updates coming Dan. Thanks, Andy.
CONSTANTLY DOWN LOADING IMAGES
Well, all I can say is i persevered with this app but sadly enough is enough. From the get go the app takes for ever to “download images” to the scale of 5-10mins! It is not my download speed; i am sporting 500GB download speeds and no other app takes this long. Its not the phone or iOS; i have tried on iPhone 12 Pro, 14 Pro and now a 16 Pro Max, all with up to date iOSs installed. If i do wait the 5-10mins then i am faced with have i got a subscription….on answering yes i am then faced with…..you guessed it…..more “downloading images”. This time they take from 15-mins up to…..i cannot be bothered to continue to download its taking so long. Sadly after what seems like several years i just can’t be bothered with this app. The only positive side was their customer support was quick to respond but sadly they were unable to rectify this app for me. So that’s it; i place this app in the B-One-N!
Slow download
I have been downloading for 2 hours now. On data and Wi-Fi nothing seems to speed it up. Glad I have the hard cover.
Annoying
Really frustrated now. I've deleted and reinstalled. Once the app finishes downloading images (a long wait), it says I must restore my purchases. I click restore and it starts downloading images. Again. From 0%. And still, my purchases are not restored.
Genius!!
Been a hardened BIR addict for over 30 years... spent most of that time trying to work out how it’s done.. no need anymore.. this guys cracked it!! Amazing results every time :) got all the books too.. I may ask him to marry me haha (I’m a bloke)
Very difficult to find a Recipe on this app!
I followed the link from Facebook for cheese stuffed meatballs, tried to print the recipe but it wouldn’t work, so downloaded the app and was looking forward to using, I’ve searched 3 recipes so far and apart from loads of info about the food, I’ve failed to actually find a single recipe. I’m not young but have been using apps for years and never had a problem before 🤷♀️
Update
Paid the extra money to get the extra recipes , it’s been downloading for 2 days and still @ 1 %. Please get the updated so I can use what I’ve paid for.
Excellent
I bought this app primarily for the garlic chilli chicken recipe as it’s my go to meal when I visit a curry house. It did not disappoint, in fact my first effort tasted way better that some I’ve had in restaurants! Subsequent efforts have been even better. My goal now is to work through every one. If you love BIR then this app is perfect. One suggestion - a link supplied to where you can buy spices as not all of us are blessed with Asian supermarkets close at hand.
???
Put the app on my phone. Clicked on various recipes - nothing but a blank screen
£5!?!?
Great idea......but £5 for recipes that I can just google? You’re havin a giraffe!!
Great curry app
I love this app and is my go-to place for curry recipes. I highly recommend you take the time to make the base curry sauces and spices mixes. The food you cook will be sublime, believe me. I just wish that new recipes were added on a regular basis. Thank you to The Curry Guy, you are my hero!
Poor design and UX app
Great recipes and advice from Dan Tooms but a very clunky and hard to use app
Poor app version of a great book
Downloads an immense amount of pictures first off, and the majority of recipes are locked behind a $7.50 charge. The price really needs to be upfront, because when they do it this way the developer really does Dan a great disservice. In app purchases are fine but the way this is done and the amount of pictures that come as an additional download instead of with the core app is poor planning.
Chicken madras
Outstanding madras, simple and easy to follow recipe. Can’t wait to try something else.
You have to buy the recipes
Gave it one star because you have to pay to get the recipes which is annoying as I already paid for the book
The Curry Guy
The curry guy is brilliant. He has done the research needed to provide some of the best curry recipes. However, the app really sucks! It needs to come into modern times. Hold off paying the extra until they update the app. JW
